Officer Killed, Suspect Captured In Hudson Valley Robbery Attempt

The Long Island NYPD officer who was shot in the neck during an SUV robbery in Brooklyn and later died from his wounds is part of a case that involved the suspect was captured inside the Hudson Valley.

Police officer Adeed Fayaz, 26, from Deer Park, Suffolk County, was found dead on Tuesday, January 7 at Brookdale Hospital.

Shots were fired at Fayaz and his brother-in-law at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 4 near 472 Ruby St. in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.

The alleged shooter, 38-year-old Manhattanite Randy Jones, was captured the day before at a Days Hotel in Nanuet, Rockland County.

Officer Adeed Fayaz “was a parent, a fiancé, a son, and a guardian of our wonderful city,” stated NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell. The members of our Department are saddened by his departure, and their prayers are with his family and friends.

What Happened In The Real Accident

According to the NYPD, Fayaz, a husband and father of two, noticed an advertisement for a Honda Pilot on Facebook Marketplace and planned to make a transaction.

As Fayaz and his brother-in-law walked down a driveway to inspect the car, Jones allegedly put him in a headlock and sought cash, according to NYPD Chief of Investigations James Essig.

Fayaz denied having it, and Jones shot him in the head before firing at least six more times as he fled, according to Essig.

According to the authorities, after Fayaz got shot, his brother-in-law retrieved the weapon and opened fire in retaliation.

Jones was located by police at a Days Inn which he was staying with a wife and five kids. He was arrested with the handcuffs of the injured police officer, the NYPD stated.

Essig explained that it was important for the suspect to learn the truth about what had happened to the police officer. In my opinion, it conveys a strong statement.

It’s likely that Jones will face charges related to the fatal police officer shooting.

Fayaz is employed by the NYPD since 2017, when he began working out of the 66th Station in Borough Park.

The Bereaved Relative’s Family

Chief of Investigations James Essig stated during a press conference that Fayaz, a married man with two newborn children, had planned to meet with Jones on Sunday to purchase a car from Jones for $24,000.

Jones “jokingly” questioned if the men were armed when Fayaz with his brother-in-law arrived, Essig claimed. The chief added that Jones then placed Fayaz in some kind of a choke hold and demanded payment.

Essig claimed that Fayaz had told Jones that he didn’t have the money and that Jones had then aimed a firearm at Fayaz’s brother-in-law. Essig claimed that once Fayaz freed himself from the headlock, Jones fired him in the head.

Essig claimed that Jones fired further shots as he ran away. After hearing bullets fired, Fayaz’s brother-in-law allegedly reached for his own gun on his hip and began firing as well. The sister-in-brother law’s was unharmed.

According to Essig, Jones’s mother was the registered owner of the 2011 BMW he stole and fled in.

A Days Hotel in Nanuet, roughly 55 kilometres (35 miles) away from New York City, is where Jones was apprehended on Monday.

Essig claimed that he was staying at the motel with a mother and five children, ranging in age from six months to eleven years. Essig stated that police cuffed Jones using Fayaz’s handcuffs.

The Nub Of It

Officers as from 75th Precinct responded to reports of a man shot on Ruby Street around 6:55 p.m. on Saturday. A five-year NYPD veteran named Fayaz from Deer Park, Long Island, was killed in the incident.

According to authorities, Fayaz contacted a man on Facebook Marketplace who was selling a Honda Pilot. There had been an aborted attempt at a meeting the day before. He and his brother-in-law drove up separately on Saturday night and parked at the intersection of Linden Boulevard with Ruby Street.

They claim that Jones “jokingly” asked the two whether they had a gun on them. Jones allegedly grabbed Fayaz in a triangle choke and tried to steal from him before being taken into custody by police after they initially told him no.

When Fayaz allegedly refused to drop his demands, Jones allegedly turned a gun on this brother-in-law. According to the authorities, Fayaz was wounded in the head as he tried to escape from the criminal.

They say Jones escaped the scene, but his brother-in-law took the injured officer’s gun and fired back.

The TLC vehicle driven by the brother-in-law took video of the incident, leading police to the 2011 BMW that is belonging to Wanda Jones. And then the police realised she had to have a son who looked just like the suspect.

Jones was detained in a Hudson Valley Days Inn. The police claim he was present alongside his partner and five little children. Nobody knew for sure if those kids were his or not. The girlfriend was questioned, but ultimately cleared.

Fayaz, whose condition has worsened, owns the handcuffs that were used to arrest Jones.
