A woman who had been declared dead on Saturday was discovered alive at a burial home a few hours later.
The Suffolk Division of Public Safety told PEOPLE in a statement that it happened at the Water’s Peak Rehab & Rehabilitation Center in Port Jefferson.
The 82-year-old woman was confirmed dead at 11:15 o’clock in the morning and taken to that same O.B. Davis Coroner’s Office in Columbia Place around 1:30 p.m. According to Suffolk County law enforcement, she was found alive and alive at 2:09 p.m.
According to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, she was sent to a nearby hospital. On Monday, no one updated us on her condition.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department has informed PEOPLE that they have turned over the investigation to the NY AG’s office.
“This is an unfortunate circumstance that has caused unneeded pain for the affected individual and her nearest and dearest,” an AG’s office representative told PEOPLE. The State’s Attorney is investigating into what happened.

On January 3, 2019, after the corpse bag containing a 66-year-old woman was unzipped in an Iowa funeral parlour, the woman started gasping for oxygen.
After an inquiry by the Iowa Board of Inspections and Appeals’ Health Facilities Division, the Glen Hills Alzheimer’s Special Treatment Center was issued a $10,000 fine for the incident in question.
The woman was transferred to the hospital, but after two days back at the care centre, she passed away.
People’s interviewee, the care center’s executive director, Lisa Eastman, said, “I just ended an assessment by the Bureau of Investigations & Appeals relating to the incident.”
“The end-of-life care of our residents is a top priority, and we will not waiver in our dedication to them. Staff members receive ongoing education on how to facilitate death and dying for our residents.”

Authorities in Suffolk County said the woman is pronounced dead at 11:15 o’clock in the morning Saturday at Water’s Crest Rehab & Nursing Center in Port Jefferson, Long Island.
Unidentified police officers transported the woman to O.B. Davies Funeral Homes in Miller Place about 1:30 p.m. They said she was found alive and gasping at 2:09 p.m.
The lady was rushed to the ER for treatment. There was no Monday update on her condition.
Police have informed the public defender’s office to look into the incident.
Monica Pomeroy, a spokeswoman for the state’s Department of Health, said an investigation has been launched but she would not provide any other details.

The nursing home was asked for feedback through email. On Monday, the individual who answered the phones there hung up on the caller. U.S. News and or World Report has named Water’s Edge Rehab & Nursing Center one of their Best Nursing Homes for 2022 and 2023, as stated in a press release published earlier this month.
We are unable to comment further at this time out of consideration for the confidentiality and dignity of the families i are honoured to serve,” the funeral service said in a statement.
Days prior, a continuing care facility in Iowa was penalised $10,000 for a similar incident involving a premature death declaration.
On January 3, 2019, authorities confirmed that a 66-year-old lady receiving hospice care at the Glen Oaks Parkinson’s Special Medical Clinic in Urbandale had been pronounced dead.
According to investigators, the woman was deposited in a garbage bag and transferred to the Ankeny Crematorium & Crematory, where staff discovered she was still alive.
According to a report released earlier this week by the Iowa Division of Inspection and Appeals, she was sent to hospice care where she passed away on January 5.
