Tenants In The Bronx Are Suing Their Landlord For Apartment Repairs Following The Fire.

A dozen occupants of a building in the Bronx have sued their landlord in the hopes that the legal process will result in repairs being made to the structure.

A fire broke out at 2490 Davidson Avenue in September 2022, and caused the destruction of several apartments there. After a period of four months, a number of residents are still looking forward to returning home.

Any Hernandez and her daughter, who is 2 years old, were forced to evacuate their home during the fire and are currently residing in a homeless shelter.

Hernandez has stated that she is unable to find a new residence due to financial constraints. “It is not simple to locate a location… “Right now, everything is pricey,” said Hernandez. “It’s a tough time.”

Hernandez is one of a dozen residents who have recently filed a lawsuit against their landlord in the expectation that the court will supervise the building’s renovations.

“This is a building that has a long history of being of having problems,” said attorney Russell Crane. “This is a building that has had a long history of being of having problems.”

Crane provided an explanation by saying, “There actually hasn’t been any communication from the landlord about the state of their apartments or about the renovation.

” These occupants have been through a lot in their time here. They have been traumatised by the fire, they are currently residing in shelters, and some of them are still receiving rent bills for their apartment that they can’t even live in.

Victims Of Massive Bronx Fire That Killed 17 Sue Building Owners For ‘Wrongful Deaths’

The families of people who were killed when a massive fire engulfed an apartment building in the Bronx in January have filed a lawsuit against the owners of the building.

Their attorney is alleging that violations of city safety laws had “caused unspeakable loss of life and injury to these families, mostly from Africa.” The majority of the victims were African.

Eighteen people, including eight children, perished in the fire that broke out in the tower complex that contained 120 apartments. It was one of the most devastating fires in the history of New York City.

The building was shrouded in smoke as a result of the fire, and the inhabitants were forced to evacuate through the smoke-filled corridors. Inhalation of smoke was the primary cause of death for the deceased, according to a representative for the medical examiner. The youngest victim was only 2 years old.

On Tuesday, several bereaved families stated that safety infractions led to their loved ones’ untimely deaths. The cases were submitted on behalf of the families by Ben Crump, an accomplished civil rights attorney from New York, and the Weitz & Luxenberg law firm from that city.

They did not publicly disclose concerns, but according to a statement released by Crump’s legal team, they accused housing corporations, investment groups, and property developers as guilty. They also say that negligence caused wrongful deaths and disabilities for the survivors.

Crump told reporters outside the building that “many of us believe that if these were White individuals and you had 17 people lose their lives and others horrifically injured, that we would not even only be talking about civil liability… we would be talking about criminal accountability.”

He went on to say that many of the victims had suffered “miserable, horrific deaths” as a result of inhaling smoke.

The majority of those who lost their lives were people who had immigrated from Gambia and other parts of West Africa; the majority of them were Muslims.

A significant Islamic burial was held a month ago, and more than a thousand people from the surrounding community jammed themselves into the streets outside the Islamic Cultural Center in the Bronx in order to observe the public service.

The gathering was conducted by Sheikh Musa Drammeh, a religious leader and community activist in the Gambian immigrant community. Drammeh condemned what he viewed as disparities in social and economic well-being that led to the deaths of the individuals.

“People are passing away as a direct result of having lived in the Bronx. Because they were born and raised in the Bronx, Drammeh predicted that they would never be able to realise their vision of the American Dream.

He went on to say that it was possible that the residents would still be alive today if they had lived “in downtown Manhattan.”

The joint venture that owns the building, known as Bronx Park Phase III Preservation, is named as a defendant in the cases that were submitted to the Superior Court in the Bronx.

The lawsuits also identify the Bronx Phase III Housing Company and three investing organisations as defendants. In the claims, neither monetary damages nor specific violations of safety regulations are mentioned.
