Mick Mars, founder member and guitarist for Mötley Crüe, has announced his intention to stop touring. The iconic Mötley Crüe guitarist has suffered from Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.) his entire life, and it appears to have finally reached a point where he cannot continue touring with the band.

This week, a representative for the musician confirmed the news in a statement to Variety.

Following the announcement sent by Mars’ representative, Mötley Crüe released their own statement confirming Mick Mars’ retirement and naming his replacement for the band’s forthcoming European tour in 2023 and beyond.

It takes immense bravery to finally admit, “Enough is enough.” As soon as Micke put in his guitars during our very first practise together, his sound became an integral part of what made Motley Crue unique.

What happened after that is, well, ancient history. We’re going to keep paying tribute to the songs he left behind.

Robert Alan “Mick” Deal (stage name Mick Mars) is a guitarist from the United States. He got birthed in The may 4, 1951. The heavy metal band Mötley Crüe made him famous as the band’s lead guitarist.

After becoming disillusioned with the Californian music industry for almost a decade, he made drastic changes to his appearance, going by the moniker “Mick Mars” and colouring his hair pitch black in an effort to start anew.

In April of 1980, he put an ad for “a loud, rough, and violent guitar player” inside the Los Angeles newspaper The Recycler.

He received a phone call from Nikki Sixx & Tommy Lee, who were forming the band that would eventually become Mötley Crüe. After hearing him perform, they decided to hire him for the band. Since that day, Mars has served as the band’s guitarist.

He joined the farewell concert in 2015 and announced shortly thereafter that he was recording a solo album with ex Mötley Crüe guitarist John Corabi.

In 2018, Mötley Crüe announced on Twitter that new music would be recorded for a cinematic adaptation of the band’s autobiography The Dirt. Sixx revealed that in early September of that year, Mars will start tracking guitars for the songs.

Mick Mars has been fighting Ankylosing Spondylitis since when he was 17 years old, and he is doing very well despite this. He first experienced problems at age 19, but he couldn’t afford to consult a doctor.

He started hurting horribly in his hips, and then it spread to his back. And he lost around three inches of height. While Mötley Crüe was at the pinnacle of their success, he was still having trouble making ends meet.

After a number of personnel changes and setbacks, bassist Nikki Sixx felt a need to get back in touch with the band’s founding members. Sixx was shocked at Mick Mars’ condition and documented it in his book.

The 70-year-old Mick is very much still with us. For as long as anyone can remember—since he was just 17 years old, Mick Mars, co-founder and primary guitarist of the legendary heavy metal act Mötley Crüe, has been afflicted with a dreadful illness for which there is no cure.

Mars never stopped playing the guitar, his life’s greatest joy, even although he was in agonising pain in his back and also was partially immobilised.

At the age of seventeen, Mick Mars was told he had ankylosing spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis is indeed a devastating and unusual condition that permanently damages the spine and pelvis, leading to chronic pain and incapacity.
