A Suspect In The New York City Police Shooting Has Been Apprehended And Taken Away In The Victim’s Own Handcuffs

A non-working Authorities in New York say a police officer was wounded during an attempt robbery as he attempted to purchase a car in Brooklyn late Saturday evening, and that he is currently in serious condition in the hospital. After the incident, a massive search was launched to find the shooter.

Assistant Chief Michael Baldassano stated during a news conference on Sunday evening that the officer, whose identity was withheld by the Law Enforcement Community, had made arrangements on a social network to acquire the vehicle in person.

Mr. Baldassano added that when he and a relative arrived at the scene, the suspect “displayed a gun and proclaimed a robbery,” leading to “exchange of gunfire.”

Mr. Baldassano stated that the suspect fled after shooting the officer, who had been with the force for five years. It was not immediately clear whether the attacker had been harmed. According to the police, the officer’s relative who was also in the car was unharmed during the altercation.

Mr. Baldassano stated that the investigation into the aggravated burglary was ongoing despite the fact that there was “no basis to assume” the suspect understood that the intended victim was an off-duty police officer.

Former police captain and public safety advocate Mayor Eric Adams said during a press conference, “it stings a lot” to learn of another officer’s shooting.

The city has been struggling with issues related to violent crime, and this incident further adds to those worries. A total of 433 people were killed in the city in 2018, down 11% from the previous year and the lowest total since 2019.

Some New Yorkers are worried about gun violence after several high-profile shootings and police officer injuries in the past year, including an April 2017 mass shooting on an overcrowded subway train in Brooklyn.

Mr. Adams has stated that “too many illicit guns are in the arms of dangerous people and doing horrible things” in the city.

As of Saturday night, Brookdale Medical in Brooklyn was described by Local Police chief Keechant Sewell as a “battle for life” facility for the injured officer. As they awaited for news of his condition, officers comforted and mourned with one another in the hospital lobby.

The Fallout From The Gunfire

Yellow tape was placed around the area around the intersection of Ruby Avenue & Linden Boulevard in East New York, Brooklyn, and police cars were everywhere.

Mr. Adams added, “We will find the person guilty for this atrocity,” adding that he had visited hospitals “for far too often” to report on police officer attacks officers.

Mr. Adams was inaugurated in as mayor of New York City on January 1, 2022, but hours later, on the same day, a police officer resting in a vehicle outside of a station house in East Harlem was shot and killed.

Later, in the Bronx, a confrontation between police and an armed teenager ended with the officer and the shooter being hit by a single bullet.

The officer, who is originally from Deer Park, accompanied his brother-in-law to pick up a vehicle he purchased through Facebook Marketplace, according to authorities. The robbery was declared by the suspect, who then produced a gun.

It has been reported that an off-duty police officer also brandished a firearm, leading to a shootout. A blow to the head knocked out the off-duty police officer.

The off-duty cop was shot, and then his uncle picked up the gun and started firing as well. Bullets missed the brother-in-law.

It’s not known if any shots were fired at the shooter himself.

The off-duty police officer is reportedly in critically injured at Brooklyn Hospital. He joined the police department in 2017 and is currently assigned to the 66th District in Borough Park.

“Be praying for this young police officer. At this time, he is in a desperate struggle for survival “said Keechant Sewell, Commissioner of the Police.

Police were using Facebook to investigate the shooter’s connections.

The Attempted Robbery

The police say they were looking into a robbery that occurred on the same road on January 13 and involved $18,000 and are investigating whether or not it is related to a Fb marketplace hoax.

During his robbery attempt on Saturday, the off-duty police officer had brought $24,000 in with him in order to buy the vehicle. The authorities claim they have no evidence that suggests the defendant knew the deceased was an off-duty police officer.

According to reports, the officer’s brother-in-dashboard law’s camera provided crucial evidence by revealing the suspect’s getaway vehicle. The suspect’s BMW was located in Harlem, within close proximity to his girlfriend lives. However, he wasn’t present.

His East New York mother was listed as the owner of the automobile. Although he was not present, a flyer advertising a $10,000 reward for information resulting to an arrest had been posted outside her Pink Houses building on Linden Avenue on Monday morning.

Although the officer’s identity has not been made public at this time, Mayor Eric Adams has stated that he has spoken with the officer’s family.

There’s the police commissioner on one side, and the rooms where people are grieving on the other. The same utterance followed: “Tell me it’s not true.” Don’t make me believe it! “To quote Adams.
