Outer Banks’s Limbrey: A Complete Biography And Background

Several new faces are introduced to viewers in Outer Banks Season 2, but Elizabeth Mitchell’s Limbrey—extremely poisonous, obscenely wealthy, and high-key chilling—is the most horrifying.

In the third episode of season 2, Carla Limbrey is introduced, and in the fourth, Pope (Jon Daviss) is invited to her home, where the audience gets its first look at the sinister figure.

As the series progresses, we learn the Limbrey and her clan have significant ties to the Royal Merchants, the gold, and Denmark Tanny. As the season progresses, we learn the full extent of her obsession with Pope and her fervent desire to acquire the treasure.

But what are Limbrey’s ties to Ward Cameron and Big John Routledge, the father of John B.?

The Limbreys Are A Mysterious Family

The Limbreys are among Charleston’s most prominent and prosperous families. They made our wackos look like the pogues, as JJ so aptly put it.

Captain Herman Limbrey commanded the Royal Merchant. The murders of Denmark Tanny’s wife Cecilia and their daughters are also believed to have been carried out by members of this family, who had ties to Tanny. Eventually, they had Tanny put to death since he had buried his wife’s body.

Who Is Carla Limbrey, Anyway?

The name “C. Limbrey” first appears in chapter 3, when Pope gets an envelope first from Royal Merchant bearing the same wheat sign as that on the gold.

Carla Limbrey, a distant relative of the ship’s captain Herman Limbrey, claims that the loot on the Royal Merchant rightfully belongs to her.

Limbrey has been looking for the Royal Merchant’s gold in the same vein as Big John Taylor and Ward Cameron. She and Ward worked together to find what they were looking for, and they have a “deep and tormented relationship” because she financed his initial development endeavour. Limbrey reveals to Pope that in the end, Ward “crossed” her as well.

In episode four of season two, Pope pays her a visit at her Charleston home and learns that Limbrey is not chasing the Royal Merchants gold after all.

Now she’s on the hunt again for Cross of Santa Fe, a massive golden cross covered in jewels that holds a priceless holy relic said to have the power to cure “any illness” in a person who wears it. Limbrey is determined to obtain the clothing because she thinks it would save her life.

As she thinks Pope to be a descendent of Denmark Tanny, she enlists his help in tracking down the key. She is correct, and she does acquire the key.

Limbrey obtains the key and locates the Cross, but she is unable to complete her goal since the garment is not, as Tanny had predicted, concealed within the Cross. Not only does she give up the physical Cross to the Camerons, but she also loses the spiritual one.

Limbrey may not have lost all hope of recovering the sacred garment, as the shocking conclusion of Season 2 reveals. Season 2 ends with Limbrey arriving in Barbados to see Big John (yep, John B.’s dad is ALIVE!) as well as the two of them teaming together to steal back the gold and indeed the Cross from Ward.

In Season 3 Of Outer Banks, Does Limbrey End Up In Jail?

Limbrey does not play a significant role in season 3 and is not essential to solving the El Dorado mystery. She is first seen in the premiere episode of the season in Barbados with Big John, but then she is not seen again for a few episodes.

Episode 5 finds Big John with John B at Limbrey’s house, having found the other half of the Landmark of Orinoco. Big John told her that he would recover the shroud if she would assist him in his search for John B. But, Big John admits that he is unaware of its whereabouts and that the whole thing is a fraud.

He then hands Limbrey what appears to be an ordinary piece of cloth and tells her it’s the shroud. He then invents a backstory for the shroud and observes as Limbrey holds the cloth to her whole body and face in a show of reverence.

Limbrey tries to get up off the ground without her crutches, convinced that the mystical veil has cured her.

Conclusion

In reality, the key opens the claddagh ring of Santo Domingo, behind which lies a shroud. Limbrey was convinced that the shroud could help her recover from her sickness, and she was prepared to do anything to obtain it. Indeed, I mean that. As she tried to get it back, she ended up killing her trusted aide.
