After being declared dead in a New York nursing home, an 82-year-old woman was reportedly found alive three hours later at the funeral home to which she had been transferred. It occurred only a few days after a similar incidence was reported in Iowa.
Suffolk County police said the woman was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson, Long Island.

Woman Found Breathing In The Body Bag
According to a report in the New York Post, a 66-year-old American woman began “gasping for oxygen” inside a body bag after a nursing facility had transferred her body to a funeral parlour under the assumption that she had died.
According to a report published on Wednesday by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in suburban Des Moines, Iowa, faces a $10,000 (Rs 8.2 lakh) fine. There is a hefty penalty for falsely reporting someone as dead: 8.2 million rupees. Because of allegations that it did not provide residents with “dignified treatment and care at end of life,” the state’s maximum penalty for such violations was imposed on the centre.
Apparently on January 3 a worker had problems locating the woman’s pulse, as reported by the media site. The patient, who developed dementia, anxiety, and depression at an early age, was just moved to the hospice care unit. The department report stated that days prior to the occurrence, the woman had been experiencing moderate seizures, “diminished” lung sounds, and skin scars that did not make sense.
