Marshmello Has Played With Fans’ Emotions Before Reveling His Face

In common parlance, marshmallows are recognised for going well with hot chocolate. On the other hand, a distinct variety of Marshmello is renowned for going well with a massive helmet and a large number of celebrities.

The first is a delectable snack, and the second is a DJ who has worked with well-known artists like Selena Gomez but has been able to keep a certain level of anonymity about him or herself.

Not only does Marshmello conceal his true identity by going by an alias, but he also keeps his face hidden from the outside world by wearing a large marshmallow-shaped helmet.

Since Marshmello’s career began, his followers have been eager to see him perform without his helmet, but it appears that won’t be happening anytime soon, at least not if he has anything to say about it.

Even further, he has been known to pull a fast one on his followers on more than one occasion by having well-known acquaintances don his signature accessory.

There is, however, one plausible theory concerning his identity, and if it is correct, then we are aware of his genuine appearance when he is not wearing the mask. Continue reading so that you can see for yourself.

Marshmello Has Played With Fans’ Emotions Before Reveling His Face

In 2016, “Marshmello” was performing at EDC Las Vegas, and after counting down for the audience, he took off his helmet to an explosion of shouts. Yet, he wasn’t the one who did it in the end.

Instead, fellow DJ Tiesto was seen sporting the facial mask in the shape of a square. Marshmello went one step further in his taunting of everyone by uploading the video of Tiesto to his own YouTube channel with the title “Marshmello FINALLY exposes himself at EDC Las Vegas 2016.”

In August of 2017, Marshmello tweeted the following, which provided a (kind of) explanation of the helmet: “I have no interest in or requirement for fame, hence I never take off my helmet.

Sincerely, I’m attempting to make something uplifting that other people can relate to and connect with.” In a subsequent post, he elaborated on his statement by writing,

“The helmet makes me marshmello and also makes you marshmello…we are all marshmello.” If that’s the case, why don’t you just hold a mirror up to your own face the next time you want to see what Marshmello actually looks like? Well the heck, why not give it a shot?

Will The Real Marshmello Please Stand Up?

On August of 2018, the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards honoured Marshmello as the Best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and Dance Artist. Fans believed that he appeared on stage wearing an all-white ensemble and his trademark helmet when he made his entrance.

Another time, the mask was removed, and this time, it revealed that the performer underneath was actually the Canadian musician Shawn Mendes.

There is never a time when anyone is upset to see Mendes, but, come on, this is another another incident in which Marshmello played with the feelings of his followers by knowingly misrepresenting them.

Will The Real Marshmello Please Stand Up?

In the earlier part of that same year, Will Ferrell made a video in which he disclosed that he is in fact Marshmello. After removing the square helmet, the actor from Step Brothers said, ” “I am the one speaking. I am Marshmello.

That was just me the whole time.” Regrettably, that is not really true, of course, but the entertaining video advertised some of Marshmello’s future performance dates, so at least there was something in it for the fans to get out of it.

There’s A Theory That Mashmello May Be Another Artist

Now that Marshmello’s possible identities have been eliminated to include Tiesto, Shawn Mendes, and Will Ferrell, there is a notion that is far more likely to be correct.

Marshmello is reportedly a man named Chris Comstock, who is also a DJ and performs under the name Dotcom. This information comes from Forbes.

In November of 2017, the publication reported a number of pieces of proof, including Skrillex referring to Marshmello as “Chris” and Dotcom and Marshmello supposedly having the same leg tattoo.

In addition to this, they performed a cross-reference search on a music royalty database known as BMI, which led them to the conclusion that Comstock and Marshmello are the same individual.

There's A Theory That Mashmello May Be Another Artist

Forbes approached Marshmello’s lawyer and agent about his identity, but they both failed to respond, so there is still a shred of ambiguity surrounding the situation.

Even Chipotle has joined in on the fun of guessing what will happen next. In January of 2018, Marshmello posted a picture of himself on Twitter with the remark,

“Dreaming of the day when guacamole is included with every chipotle order.” In response, the quick-service restaurant business said, “Dreaming of the day when we find out if Marshmello really is also Dotcom.” Insert winking face emoji here

You should be able to see Marshmello’s face up there if he is in fact Comstock or Dotcom. But a big part of the excitement is that you can never be entirely sure, and you get to sit around and guess which famous person will be wearing the helmet next.

Marshmello’s Mask Speaks For Itself

In addition to his distinctive mask, Marshmello is rarely without the company of his longtime manager, Moe Shalizi. It was the two of them who conceptualised the mask in the “More Than Music (Artist Spotlight Stories)” mini YouTube documentary.

He said that they considered using a variety of items, such as pantyhose and a bandana, to create the mask.

The first prototype of the mask was made out of a pieced-together yoga mat that was bonded together at the back. The current iteration of the helmet weighs in at $8 pounds, and it will set you around $55,000, as reported by Billboard.

In the documentary, Shalizi explains that the inspiration for the mask arose from a desire to make something bigger than one individual.

To that purpose, he set out to establish a name for it that would be universally accessible regardless of factors like linguistic background, religious affiliation, or national origin.

As Marshmello became the name of the company, fans could connect with the music without questioning who was truly behind the mask.

Beni, a leukaemia survivor, was also included in the film; she explained that she didn’t care about the identity of the person behind the mask because she was grateful for what she had “an excellent example of its kind. Both the tunes and the marshmallow.”
