Beautiful as it is, the cliff of Cabo Rojo’s lighthouse in Puerto Rico poses a risk to visitors who go too near to the edge.
Edgar Garay, 27, from Columbus, Indiana, died after falling 70 feet on Sunday. On Monday afternoon, a dive team from the United States Coast Guard and the Puerto Rico Disaster Bureau found and removed Garay’s corpse from the ocean.

The Results Of This Occurrence
Following the original report of the event by a 911 operator, security officers in Area San Juan contacted USCG rescue units to begin looking for Garay at around 6:50 p.m. on Sunday. Also, a witness lady said she observed Garay stumbling toward the precipice and called it in to the watchers.
All night long, search patterns were flown out from Airforce Base Borinquen in an MH-60T helicopter looking for the missing guy.
On Monday afternoon, the diving team from the Puerto Rico Disaster Bureau located Garay’s corpse 70 feet underneath the cliff where he had been last seen standing, bringing an end to the search.

Garay’s brother Carlos told Indiana’s WTHR that his cousin cautioned him not to record near the edge of the cliff while making a TikTok video.

The US Coast Guard reports that the marine unit of Puerto Rico Combined Forces for Rapid Action assisted city officials and emergency management organizations in Cabo Rojo in bringing Garay’s corpse to land.
Capt. José E. Daz, commander of Coast Guard Station San Juan, stated, “We send our most deepest sympathies to the loved ones and family members of Edgar Garay & wish they find justice and fortitude during perhaps the most difficult time.”
“We appreciate the work of every single Coast Guard, Puerto Rico Police, and relationship agency emergency personnel, and even more so the Puerto Rico Disaster Response Bureau dive unit that had been able to locate Mr. Garay’s body in such an inaccessible and challenging environment,” said the governor of Puerto Rico.

The Coast Guard also reported that the HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft and the 154-foot quick response Clipper Richard Dixon helped in the hunt for Garay.
