At the 65th annual Grammy Awards, Beyoncé took home the most prizes of any performer in the show’s history, while the genre of hip-hop was celebrated for its half-century anniversary.

With her fourth win of the evening, Beyoncé eclipsed the late Hungarian-British conductor Georg Solti as the recipient of the most Grammy Awards of all time, bringing her total to 32.

After receiving nine nominations this year, her total number of nominations for her entire career is now 88, tying the record held by her husband, Jay-Z. Beyoncé was nominated for a number of Grammys, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Big Boi, De La Soul, Missy Elliott, Ice-T, Lil Wayne, The Lox, Method Man, Public Enemy, Queen Latifa, and many others performed as part of Sunday’s extravaganza commemorating hip-50th hop’s anniversary.

Backstage At The Grammys

A majority of the winners for the night’s televised Grammy presentation were announced at a pre-telecast ceremony held at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.

At that event, Viola Davis won the award for best audiobook narration, making her the first African American woman to win all four of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony).

To her credit, she is only the 18th person in history to sweep the four most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry.
