He didn’t seem to care much about his studies in his initial two years of university. In pursuit of his aim of becoming a lawyer, he transferred three times before settling on one institution.

After rejecting baseball as a professional path, Grisham enrolled in college to study accounting so that he might become a tax attorney. The study of criminal law, however, rapidly piqued his interest.
After receiving his law degree in 1981, John Grisham opened his own legal office in Southaven, where he remained until 1990. He took pleasure in working with his customers and was always eager to meet new ones.
After years of helping those on fixed incomes, he decided to run for state representative in Mississippi and was ultimately elected by the Democratic Party. He served in this capacity from 1984 until 1989.
Grisham, who had been an attorney for about a decade, found that he was losing interest in the field. Nonetheless, he found that his time as an attorney provided fertile ground for his creativity, which in turn led to his success as a writer.

Writing Career For John Grisham
As Grisham could only find an hour a day to devote to writing, he began rising at five o’clock every morning. His first novel was a three-year labour of love.
Author John Grisham drew inspiration for his novel A Time 2 Kill from his time spent practising law. As a lawyer, he sat through the prosecution of either a 12-year-old girl accused of rape and began to wonder what would have happened to the case if the victim’s parents had killed the accused pervert.
The protagonist in Grisham’s work is a young lawyer in Mississippi who takes on a high-stakes case. Although Grisham could not find delight in the practise of law any longer, he was still using his debut novel to convey his aspirations in the field through its use of these anecdotes.
Grisham was curious as to what it might like to operate on a case similar to the one he described in his novel.

While Grisham’s work did end up being a bestseller, getting it published was a problem at first. After having his story rejected by 28 different publishing houses, he was eventually given a chance by a smaller press.
On June of 1989, he released A Time to Kill to mediocre sales results. Yet, he continued to follow his passion for writing.
The Firm, Grisham’s second novel, was begun soon after the release of A Time to Kill. When it came time to pick his second book, a bigger publishing house made the commitment. More amazingly, he had already sold the picture rights to the plot before the novel was even out.
