Tom Jackson, a former linebacker in the NFL, has resigned from broadcasting after 29 years with ESPN’s NFL coverage.
The network made the announcement on Wednesday, saying that Jackson’s final broadcast will be during the Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend.
Jackson commented on his retirement in an ESPN press release, saying:
On July 26th, New York Daily News reporter Bob Raissman broke the news that Jackson was likely leaving the network. After much speculation, the longtime analyst’s decision was confirmed on July 27 by Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated.
According to Deitsch, Jackson reached this conclusion a few weeks ago on his own accord, and he was not asked or pressured to resign by the administration at ESPN. According to the article, he will not be returning to the Countdown panel for the 2016 election, joining Cris Carter, Keyshawn Johnson, Ray Lewis, and Mike Ditka.
