Hours after his arrest on Thursday night, the man accused of killing a deli worker on the Upper East Side was escorted out of the 19th precinct. He had been wearing a HAZMAT suit throughout a series of robberies.
The 39-year-old Kimond L. Cyrus did not respond to the reporters’ inquiries as he was brought away in the rear of a police car with his hands and feet restrained.
Police say that on Friday night, Cyrus shot and killed a 67-year-old worker at Daona Gourmet Deli on Third Avenue and East 81st Street.
On Thursday, Sueng Choi, a resident of Queens, was recognised by police as the worker.
With the gun’s discharge, Cyrus allegedly pistol whipped Choi, killing him.
On Thursday, he was arrested and accused with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
During the course of a week, he robbed three city delis and bodegas at gunpoint.
On Sunday, a concerned resident called the police to report seeing him at a bodega in the Bronx. Close to Crotona Park, before he rode off on a scooter.
Authorities had a hard time figuring out who was responsible for the robberies. Because the perpetrator was wearing a mask and a white Tyvek suit.

Kimond Cyrus Bodega Shooting
An arrest for robbery in 2002 is just one of several previous convictions for Cyrus. Who was reportedly recognised on Wednesday night and taken into custody by police early Thursday morning. After the armed robberies, detectives said they saw him riding a scooter, which became a crucial piece of evidence. Someone saw a scooter like it and reported it to the authorities.

Police Arrested Kimond Cyrus
A man wanted in connection with four robberies in Brooklyn and Manhattan over the past week and a half has been arrested, police said today.
Police said they apprehended Kimond Cyrus, 39, on Thursday in the Bronx. After he robbed four New York City bodega stores at gunpoint. While wearing a white Tyvek painter’s suit and a black face mask. Cyrus allegedly shot and killed an employee at one of the Upper East Side stores.
On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams warned that the widespread acceptance of mask use in the wake of the pandemic was making the jobs of competent police officers more difficult and facilitating the escape of criminals.

According to the NYPD, Cyrus was arrested three times before. (Including once for robbery in 2002) and is currently facing additional charges. There was a delay in obtaining details about his legal representation.
Murder Charges Filed Against Cyrus On Thursday night. Police filed murder charges against Kimond Cyrus, 39. It’s believed that he’ll be arraigned today.
And that murder accusation may only be the beginning.
Authorities think he is responsible for robbing other New York City bodegas.
After being detained for interrogation in the Bronx, Cyrus was eventually arrested. And, charged with murder in the fatal shooting of that bodega worker.
Around 10:40 on Thursday morning, he was captured by the NYPD Regional Fugitive Task Unit in front of 3808 Rombouts Avenue.
There was a news conference held by the police in the afternoon, where they revealed the suspect’s identity. He stands accused of killing 67-year-old Sueng Choi. Cyrus was additionally accused of illicit weapon possession.
