Right-handed batsman for the Indian cricket team & the Mumbai batting team in regional events, Suryakumar Yadav is an Indian cricketer. Suryakumar has become a household name thanks in large part to his time spent with the Mumbai Indians of the IPL.

Suryakumar’s passion for cricket and badminton dates back to his early years. Ashok Kumar Yadav, the boy’s father, urged him to choose one sport and make a career out of it. His family moved from Banaras to Mumbai when he was just 10 years old.

Ashok enrolled Suryakumar at a cricket camp at Chembur’s BARC colony when he realized Suryakumar has the necessary abilities and aptitude for the sport. When he was 12, he enrolled in the Elf Vengsarkar academy, where he was mentored by Dilip Vengsarkar, an Indian cricket legend.

When Suryakumar was in school, he attended Pillai University of Arts, Commerce, and Science. As the best cricketer in the world under the age of 22, he was awarded the MA Raman Trophy in 2011. With four fifties and two hundreds, he scored 721 runs at an 80.11 percent clip in seven games.

Domestic Career Paths For Suryakumar Yadav

On 11 February 2010 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Suryakumar made his List-A debut for Mumbai, his native state, against Gujarat. He was the match’s second-highest scorer after his fast 41 off 37 balls.

A short time later, he debuted in Twenty20 cricket for Mumbai versus Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament. He was out for 5, and the team lost by seven wickets.

At the year’s close, he was given his first shot at First-Class cricket, and he took advantage by making his debut against Delhi. This time, Surya wasn’t in the mood to share the spotlight, as seen by his match-high 73 not out.

After a spectacular start, Surya dominated the 2011–12 Ranji season, scoring 754 runs for Mumbai in only 9 games at a batting average of 68.54.

He scored a double century in his third game of the season, against Orissa, and then scored another hundred in his fourth encounter. In the 2011–12 season, at the Under-23 level, he scored over a thousand runs and took home the MA Chidambaram Cup.

Suryakumar was selected captain of the Mumbai side heading into the 2014–15 Ranji season. Suryakumar resigned as captain after Mumbai lost against Tamil Nadu by one inning and 44 runs, after making 487 strokes at a rate of 53.88. The former Mumbai skipper resigned because he wanted to concentrate on his batting.

In a match for the trophy in the Group B Premier League between Mumbai and Karnataka, he made 94 runs, helping his team win by seven wickets. Suryakumar will lead Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will be awarded in 2020-21.

Career Opportunities Abroad For Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar finally received his just reward and chance to play in the senior Indian men’s side after almost a decade of hard work in cricket at home and the IPL.

On March 14, 2021, at Ahmedabad, the Mumbai-born hitter made his debut for India in a Twenty20 International against England. Suryakumar did not get to bat in the inaugural T20I match, but he scored 57 in his maiden T20I inning in the following T20I match.

Suryakumar has not slowed down since then, instead advancing in great strides. He participated in four games for India in the 2021 Twenty20 World Cup, scoring 42 runs over the course of three innings.

With a win in the third and deciding Twenty20 International in Nottingham, India would have swept England 3-0. Suryakumar’s fireworks kept Indian fans optimistic even after the top of their batting order fell quickly.

He was aggressive against the English bowlers, playing elegant strokes that made batting appear easy. Suryakumar’s 55-ball 117, which included 14 fours and 6 sixes, put England at bay until the last over, when Moeen Ali removed the flamboyant Indian batter.

In the lead-up to World T20 2022, Suryakumar kept his spot in India’s T20 World Cup roster with some impressive knocks in bilateral series.

IPL Playing Time For Suryakumar Yadav

Yadav’s skills impressed the Mumbai Indians enough that they signed him to an IPL contract for the 2012 campaign. He was overlooked all season long, though, because of the presence of more seasoned players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Kieron Pollard.

This Mumbai player was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the 2014 IPL auctions for INR 70 lakhs. His rookie club won the championship, and he contributed by driving in 164 runs.

His 20-ball 46 against the Mumbai Indians won the game and made him a household name during the 2015 Indian Premier League.

At the 2018 IPL super auction, he was re-acquired by the Mumbai Indians. Uncapped players like him often get the highest prices at auction, and he walked away with 3.2 crores. He appeared in 16 games during the 2019 season, scoring 424 runs at a rate of 32.61 with a high of 71.

Suryakumar dominated in the 2020 IPL season, scoring 480 runs at an impressive 40. He helped MI win consecutive IPL championships as the team’s second most run scorer, behind only Quinton de Kock.

Mumbai Indians kept Suryakumar as their fourth-best player going into the IPL 2022 super auction. He scored 303 runs in 8 games with an on-base percentage of 145.67 before being hurt and missing the rest of the season.

A week ahead the start of the 2019-20 season, the Mumbai team’s ace batter was named captain once again. The decision came as a shock since the flashy batter had been cut from the team the year before.
