National Beer Can Appreciation Day, All Information Updated 2023

Having a cold beer in your hand is one of life’s greatest pleasures. When you’re enjoying a flight at Essex County Breweries, kicking back on a patio, getting pumped up for the game, or just relaxing, having a can of beer in your hand makes the experience that much more satisfying.

In honor of January 24th, National Beer Can Appreciation Day, we’d like to highlight some of the most creative and eye-catching cans from local breweries (and an honorable distillery mention).

The label of the flagship lager raises a glass to Walkersville’s heritage, and the beer itself is brewed to honor Hiram Walker’s original, uncompromising standards for beer quality. Its medium body, moderate bitterness, and crisp finish contribute to its easy drinking nature.

Beer has been consumed for thousands of years, and some even theorise that the availability of Beer helped the Egyptian slaves work so hard to construct the massive pyramids. One’s ability to retain calories and resist spoilage is crucial.

A beverage’s container has changed over the years, with clay jars once the norm and aluminium cans now the norm. In 1935, this custom was established, and since then, there has been a never-ending stream of labelling innovations.

A label can have any meaning, from the profound to the absurd. Collectors of beer cans from all over the world have amassed impressive collections that showcase the breadth and depth of the beer can designers’ artistic ability.

It’s more than just pretty pictures! Likewise admired are the various technical developments that have occurred over time, such as the development from cans that needed to be opened with a church key to today’s cans that can be popped with a simple pull of the thumb. That charming hiss always signals the start of a fantastic afternoon.

  • Indulge yourself with a can of beer.
In my opinion, it makes no difference where the beer comes from. It could be the brew your grandpa always drank or the ultra-small-batch brew your BFF recently discovered. We celebrate Beer Can Appreciation Day by imbibing from canned beer, but any container will do.
  • Take a look at those stunning beer bottles.
When you’re ready, take a single can out of its packaging and raise it to the heavens. Take note of the markings, the outline, the shape, and the serial numbers.
  • Indulge in the sweet nectar that awaits
Now that it has been protected from the light and air, your beer’s flavour will have fully developed. Behold, the glory that is canned beer, my friend. Perhaps you deserve that bonus.

Important Beer Dates

  • Cone-top cans are introduced in 1935 by the G. Heilemann Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin. These cans are designed to be used with conventional bottling lines, making them affordable even for microbreweries.
  • When the Pittsburgh Brewing Company released Iron City Beer in 1963 with pull tabs, also called pop tops, it completely changed the way that beer could be packaged and consumed. Pull tabs, with their potentially dangerous edges, quickly gained a reputation as the most dreaded form of litter in public spaces such as parks, backyards, and beaches.
  • The Stay Tab, invented in 1975 by the Falls City Brewing Company in Louisville, Kentucky, negates the wasteful use of paper pull tabs.

What Makes National Beer Can Appreciation Day So Special

  • Reduced leisure time
This is based on solid scientific evidence. A beer can can be chilled faster than a beer bottle. Bottled beer, however, maintains its chill for a significantly longer period of time. To prevent condensation, however, you can use a koozie or the Yeti Rambler Colster.
  • More convenient for stacking
Do you have any experience stacking beer bottles? You’ve got… What were the results like? Beer cans are more space-efficient than bottles when stacked in a grocery store, fridge, garage, or anywhere else they might be stored.
  • Enhanced Sturdiness
During World War II, American brewers were able to supply troops overseas with millions of cans of beer thanks to the convenience of canning. Canned beer is now pressurised, tasty, and ready when you are, whether you’re floating a river, climbing a mountain, or shredding the gnar. Is that something a bottle can do?

To celebrate National Beer Can Appreciation Day every day of the year, you can take a self-guided tour of the Windsor Essex Barrel Trail with the help of the Barrels, Bottles, and Brews Flight Log.

You can choose from a 1-day passport, a 7-day passport, or a Frequent Flyer membership good for a year’s worth of tastings and special offers. The capability to use them all digitally from a smartphone.
