House Speaker Election Coverage: Chamber Narrowly Votes To Adjourn For Day House Votes To Adjourn Until Thursday

The House of Representatives met again for a short period of time on Wednesday evening, but ultimately decided against holding a seventh vote for Speaker and instead voted to adjourn for the day.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was unsuccessful in his bid to become Speaker of the House during Wednesday’s sixth vote, which was also the third vote of the day.

However, there were indications that the GOP negotiations were making headway.

McCarthy stated that there was no agreement as he was leaving a meeting later on Wednesday, but that Republicans had “made a lot of progress.”

It has been a century since the House of Representatives required more than one member to cast a vote for the position of Speaker.

It has been a century since the House of Representatives required more than one member to cast a vote for the position of Speaker.

During a tense interview on his nightly programme on Wednesday, Fox News host Sean Hannity repeatedly questioned Republican Representative Lauren Boebert (Colorado) about her efforts to thwart Rep.

Kevin McCarthy’s bid to claim the Speakership of the House this week. Boebert’s efforts were focused on preventing McCarthy from succeeding in his goal of becoming the next House Speaker.

Hannity questioned the Republican congresswoman by asking, “Isn’t it time for you and your side to pack it in since he (McCarthy) has over 200 (votes) and you have 20?” McCarthy has more than 200 votes, while the congresswoman only has 20.

She responded by saying, “I promise you that I understand the frustration.” “I’m not frustrated,” Hannity said in response to the interruption. “You didn’t answer my query.” “There are more people who support us than there are who oppose us,” concluded Boebert.

House Votes To Adjourn Until Thursday

On Wednesday evening at eight o’clock, members of the House of Representatives returned to the chamber, only to immediately vote to adjourn until Thursday at noon.

The voting count was 216-214 in the end.

Reps. Andy Biggs (Arizona), Lauren Boebert (Colorado), and Matt Gaetz (R-Florida), along with Rep.-elect Eli Crane, were the four Republicans who joined all Democrats in voting “no” on the measure (Ariz.).

Both Democrats and Republicans withdrew their votes in equal numbers.

The leaders of the Democratic Party had whipped their members to vote against the motion in the hopes of forcing a seventh vote for Speaker.

At the very end of the vote, when Democrats urged that it be held open for a longer period of time, there appeared to be some sort of ruckus on the House floor.

Democrats Oppose Motion To Adjourn

As the House reconvenes at 8 o’clock this evening, Democrats are speaking out against a resolution to postpone the meeting until Thursday at noon.

The leadership of the Democratic Party recommended to its members that they vote “no” on the motion in order to force a seventh vote on the Speakership, and so far every Democrat has followed this recommendation.

The House of Representatives is currently holding a vote on a motion to adjourn until Thursday at noon.

Democrats Hold Press Conference As House Begins Third Day Without A Speaker

As the 118th Congress begins its third day without an elected speaker, the Democratic leadership team of the House is having their weekly press conference. This comes as the chamber enters its third day without a speaker.

In spite of internal strife within the Republican Party, incoming House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, has stated that the Democrats are still together.

After the House of Representatives decided to adjourn for the day late on Wednesday night, outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, R-California, took to Twitter to criticise Republicans for their “cavalier attitude” in the process of electing a new speaker. She wrote that “all who serve in the House share a responsibility to bring dignity to this body.”

She commented that the careless attitude of Republicans in electing a Speaker is frivolous, disrespectful, and unworthy of this institution. “Sadly, Republicans’ cavalier attitude in electing a Speaker”
