We’d like to recommend a new comedy-drama series that you can binge over the weekend. There are 10 episodes of the Netflix show Against the Ropes, and you’ll likely try to watch them all in one sitting. After its January 25 premiere on Netflix, it has steadily been gaining viewers.
Carolina Rivera’s Against the Ropes (Contra las Cuerdes) is a Mexican Netflix original series. She first gained notoriety for her work alongside Fernando Sariana in the Netflix comedy-drama series Daughter from Another Mother.
Inspired by the life of Jackie Kallen, the first female manager of a professional boxing team. Kallen will be played by Ryan, and the boxer she inspires to greatness will be played by Epps. Kallen overcame hardships in his own life to become a fight manager, and within three years of entering the industry. He guided James Toney to the middleweight world title.

The Plot of Against The Ropes
Angela (Caraly Sánchez) has recently been released from prison after serving six years for narcotics possession. A conviction she has always rejected. She receives a few gifts, including a rose-decorated rucksack.
Rocio, Angela’s daughter, gets picked up by her mother Victoria (Alisson Santiago). Roco, now 12, hasn’t seen her mother in a few years and isn’t really keen in getting back in touch. She doesn’t even bother coming home to her mother; she and her father Lalo are off to “the battles” (Cuauhtli Jimenez). Angelia witnesses the two of them in a local wrestling arena. Where they are cheering for a lucha libre wrestler named Dulce Caramelo (Scarlet Gruber). Dulce tells her “daughter” Roco that she won the match for her because of her.
Dulce is in a committed relationship with Lalo, and she and Roco have become close friends. To the point where Roco is happier when she is with Dulce than when she is with her mother. She wants Lalo and Roco to move in with her, Lalo is understandably hesitant to make the move without consulting Angela first.
As part of an all-comers bout, Angela faces off against Dulce; she holds her own despite the odds thanks to the fact that her father was a villain in lucha libre. Overall, though, Dulce proves victorious. The arena owner, however, convinces Lalo that she should return since she would make a fantastic villain.
But she and Roco made a deal: Roco can keep attending to the fights, but Roco will never allow her mother return to the ring again (or else she’ll move in with Dulce and her father). In order to cope with the impending loss of Roco, she and her companion Refugio decide she will disguise herself as a villain in professional wrestling (Giovanna Zacarias).
The Cast of Against The Ropes
Caraly Sánchez plays Angela, a recently freed prisoner who is doing her best to get her life back on track in Cast Against the Ropes. Reestablishing a positive relationship with her daughter and earning her approval is a top priority for her.
We all know that Angela’s daughter is a major admirer of lucha libre wrestling. Angela goes into the ring as an unknown wrestler to win back her trust. The teaser for the show shows Caraly in top form, perfectly expressing the nuanced aspects of her character.
She looks like she’ll provide a gripping performance as her character, who has a lot of grit and tenacity. The actress has starred in many successful and critically praised productions prior to Against the Ropes, including Coyote, An Unknown Enemy, and Somos. Several other notable actors, like Scarlet Gruber, Giovanna Zacaras, and Cuauhtli Jiménez, also star alongside Caraly Sanchez in supporting parts.
Legendary wrestler Rey Mysterio supposedly plays a tutor who teaches the protagonist the art of lucha libre. His appearance will be one that fans won’t soon forget. Keep in mind that Against the Ropes will be available on Netflix on January 25th, 2023.
Is a Second Season of Against The Ropes planned?
Netflix now has all 10 episodes of Against the Ropes available to watch online. So, will Against the Ropes return for a second season?
The series finale of Against the Ropes unmistakably sets up Season 2. For the first time, Rocio sees just how hard her mother has trained for the ring when Candy is pronounced the winner in her battle against ngela (despite faking to win).
Rocio takes out a drum and starts beating out the chant, “La Novia Negra!” in honour of Angela’s lucha libre moniker. While the crowd is still cheering for La Novia Negra, the screen goes blank, setting up the possibility of a second season.
Against the Ropes Season 1 is currently available to watch in its entirety on Netflix, but the streaming service has not said whether or not the show will return for a second season.

Conclusion
Carolina Rivera, with a dash of tenderness, a dash of irony, and a lot of empathy, likes to push the boundaries of the “everyday” and does a fantastic job of forcing us to question our routines and assumptions.
It seems to be working for her, and with the help of competent acting and, most importantly, very banal scripts, she provides us with a palatable consumerist recipe that is seasoned with various touches of reality and melodrama.
