After 21 Seasons, McGraw Has Decided To Stop The ‘Dr. Phil’ Talk Show And Move On To Other Endeavours.

After 21 seasons on daytime TV, Dr. Phil is leaving this spring.

According to ‘Variety,’ Dr. Phil McGraw, 72, has decided to end production of new series at the conclusion of the upcoming 2022-23 season.

CBS Media Ventures, the show’s distributor, is working on a package of reruns to maintain the syndicated “Dr. Phil” on the air until at least the 2023–24 season.

McGraw, according to CBS insiders, took the decision to cancel the Monday-through-Friday, hour-long series.

McGraw has expanded his role as a writer of written primetime shows in recent years. Additionally, he is the presenter of not one but two podcasts.

Even though linear television has been seeing a sharp downturn, ‘Dr. Phil’ still pulls in an average of approximately 2 million people every episode. With those numbers, it surpasses ‘Live With Kelly & Ryan’ on Disney Channel as the highest-rated midday talk programme.

What Time Did This Programme Begin?

McGraw’s departure from ‘Dr. Phil’ marks the end of a day job he’s had for the last quarter century. Early in his career, he became widely known as a regular on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the late 1990s.

As a result, in the autumn of 2002, he debuted his own series. Initially, Winfrey’s Harpo Productions would make episodes, while CBS’s King World Productions would distribute them.

“I have actually been fortunate with over 25 fantastic years in daytime television,” McGraw said in a statement.

McGraw said he plans to reveal a “strategic primetime relationship” that would help him “aceincrease my effect on television and audiences” in the near future, suggesting a new TV project is on the horizon.

Launch is planned for early 2024, although specifics are still few.

Having “serious worries about stated American family,” McGraw added, “I am devoted to help restoring a clear purpose and our basic values.” This commitment has inspired him to reach out to a wider audience.

Paramount Global’s financial line will take a hit without new episodes of “Dr. Phil” and payments for licencing and advertising that result from this.

The exorbitant price that CBS is demanding from TV station owners for something like the One reason McGraw plans to stop making new episodes of Dr. Phil is the fact that he has already filmed a package of reruns to air next season.

“While his programme has ended after 21 years, we are delighted to report that our partnership with Phil and CBS/King World will continue,” stated Steve LoCascio, chief of CBS Digital Ventures.

As the creator of one of daytime television’s most successful discussion programmes, Phil forever altered the daytime programming landscape. “We want to continue our Dr. Phil partnership with both the library for many years to come, and we look forward to exploring additional collaboration prospects with you.”

CBS plans to spice up the repeats by adding additional wraparound content recorded by McGraw, such as updates on the status of individual guests and innovations in counselling and treatment.
