His niece and her family, Muhamed says, have recently relocated from Mali to the United States “for a brighter future.”

A man who claims to be the uncle of the 4-year-old victim said to Eyewitness News that he drove past the scene of the incident on his way to work shortly after dusk on Tuesday night, but didn’t realise he was witnessing a family tragedy.
I came out of the building and found the man lying here on the ground, so I have no idea what’s going on,” Mohamed Toure added. His wife reportedly called him at the office.
To translate: “I was asking her what was going on, and she said the man you saw on the floor is, your brother,” Toure stated.
He explained that his brother had been strolling along Sixth Avenue with the girl. And another child when a car suddenly appeared and ran them down.
Robert Lindsay, a local resident, described seeing a family on the ground at the corner and heard them sobbing, so he knew it was horrible.
