Top secret’ Documents Recovered in the Raid on Donald Trump’s Home ( Updated 2022 )

ABOUT

According to court documents made public on Friday, the Associated Press reported that FBI agents found “top secret” documents during their search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida mansion earlier this week.

An official property receipt revealed that some of the confiscated items were marked as “top secret” and “sensitive compartmented information,” the two highest levels of classification. It is intended that only authorized personnel within a secure government facility have access to information classified in this way.

According to a search warrant released by a Florida court on Friday. FBI agents who searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Monday were removed. There are eleven volumes of secret paperwork, some of which are so sensitive that they should be kept locked away in secure government archives.

A list of the items removed from the property reveals that FBI agents took around 20 boxes of materials. Including binders of photos, a handwritten note, and the executive grant of clemency for Mr. Trump’s ally Roger Stone.

On page three of the document, under the heading “President of France,” was a listing of the same kind of information. A federal magistrate judge in Florida issued a search warrant, which is included in the seven-page document.

What triggered the search operations?

When Trump left office in January 2021 after losing the presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden two months earlier, the federal government launched an investigation into whether he illegally removed documents.

As of this writing, the Justice Department is still investigating whether or not Trump obstructed justice by ordering the search of Mar-a-Lago and the recovery of White House documents earlier this year. The search warrant was issued by a US magistrate judge and served on Monday.

What’s Trump’s claim?

President Trump claimed on Twitter that the documents had been “completely declassified” and stored in “secure facilities.” The previous head of state stated “There was no necessity to “seize” anything. Without getting involved in politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago, they could have had it whenever they wanted.”

In a tweetstorm, Trump declared, “Not only will I not oppose the release of documents… I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents.”

posts on his Truth Social platform.

The FBI deleted the classified files on Monday. But the three statutes cited in support of the warrant make it illegal to mishandle any government record, classified or not. The possibility of breaking the law would be unaffected by Trump’s claims that he declassified the documents.

What items were recovered?

US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart also approved the search warrant. Had the final say on whether or not the documents would be unsealed. More than 30 items, including 20 boxes, and photo albums. A handwritten note, and Trump’s pardon of longtime adviser and ally Roger Stone, have been confiscated by the FBI.

Media reports

It was reported earlier in the day in The Wall Street Journal that some of the documents were “meant to be only available in special government facilities.” It claimed that the “President of France” was among the removed items.

Even if Mr. Trump objects, the Justice Department asked a Florida judge to unseal the warrant on Friday. He is considering a run for president again in 2024.

Although he claimed to be the victim of “unprecedented political weaponization of law enforcement” by “radical left Democrats,” 76-year-old Mr. When asked if he would obstruct the warrant’s release, Trump said he would not.

A copy of the search warrant and a receipt detailing the property seized by FBI agents have been in Mr. Trump and his lawyers’ possession for days. They could have disclosed the contents themselves at an earlier time.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the FBI seized 20 boxes containing documents and other items. After Trump pardoned Roger Stone, a close associate of the former president.

In a report published on Thursday. The Washington Post cited unnamed sources close to the investigation. As saying that classified documents pertaining to nuclear weapons were among the papers sought by FBI agents during the raid.

Whether or not the documents would include an FBI affidavit that would presumably lay out a detailed factual basis for the search remains unknown at this time. The agency asked that the warrant and property receipt be unsealed, and for the two attachments to the warrant to be released.

Neither Mr. Trump nor the FBI has commented on the nature of the recovered documents or the specific goals of the investigation.
