Fans of the epic fantasy anime Made in Abyss, which was a top contender for the greatest anime of a season in the summers of 2022, will be pleased to hear that the story of Riko, Reg, & Nanachi will continue in a third season.
Made in Abyss: The Gold City of Blistering Sun, the sequel series to the season 2 of Made in Abyss, was officially greenlit for production during a special ceremony in Tokyo on January 15.
Not much is known about the upcoming third season, although it seems likely that it will follow the same manga adaptation formula as the previous two. There is currently no release date because production has only recently began.
Made in Abyss has spawned not only two television seasons but also a number of feature-length animated films, the most important of which is the canonical Dawn of a Deep Soul, which takes place between the events both the first and third television seasons. All three Made in Abyss films provide a condensed version of the first season’s events.
An Original Abyssal Tale
Akihito Tsukushi’s Made in Abyss takes place in a mysterious and perilous realm. The locals make their homes atop a huge crater, from which they access the “Abyss.”
Treasures and relics from bygone eras can be found in abundance in the Abyss. Cave Raiders embark on perilous expeditions into the Abyss in search of priceless artefacts.
Cave Raiders who venture even further into the caverns are met with increasingly terrifying consequences on their return.
Riko, a young orphan who lives in the city of the Abyss, longs to follow in her mother’s footsteps and venture into the depths of the Abyss.
Once Riko discovers her mother’s tapes detailing her descents into the Abyss, she becomes convinced that her mom is still alive just at bottom.

Hence, Riko ventures into the Abyss in search of her mom.
One of the greatest anime shows of the 2010s, Made in Abyss has received high praise from critics.
Web Comic Gamma began digitally publishing the manga in 2012, and as of 2022, the serial has 11 volumes.
North American rights were acquired by Seven Seas Entertainment.
Kinema Citrus, who also created The Rise of Shield Hero and Barakamon, is responsible for the animation. Season one premiered in 2017, and Season two won’t be on until 2022.

When Will We Get Our Hands On Made In Abyss Season 3?
The company has not confirmed a premiere date for Season 3 of Made in Abyss as of the month of February 2023. There is currently no source material to begin production on the season.
