Kenner, LA – A gunman opened fire in Kenner, Louisiana, on Sunday morning, injuring three police officers and two bystanders. The incident occurred outside a residence in the New Orleans suburb.
According to Kenner Police Captain Michael Cunningham, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9:45 AM. Upon arrival, they encountered a scene where two individuals had been shot while sitting in their vehicle.
As officers approached the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Matthew Lathers, a shootout ensued. A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office sniper was deployed and fatally shot Lathers.
Thankfully, the two wounded bystanders are reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital. Three Kenner police officers were also injured in the exchange of gunfire. Two officers have since been released from the hospital, while the third remains in stable condition.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced that his agency will lead the investigation into the shooting.
This incident comes as a blow to the community, highlighting the dangers faced by law enforcement officers and innocent civilians. Kenner officials have vowed to cooperate fully with the investigation and provide support to the victims and their families.
