Fans of Chainsaw Man, one of the most anticipated anime in recent memory, are understandably devastated at the conclusion of the show’s first season.
According to Crunchyroll, the story follows “Denji, a teenage lad, and his roommate, a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita.” Living in abject poverty to pay off the debt left by his father, he and Pochita harvest the bodies of devils. Later on, Denji falls victim to treachery and meets his end. His mind begins to slip away, but not before he makes a deal with Pochita. That results in his resurrection as “Chainsaw Man,” a man with a “devil’s heart.”
But what happens in the cliffhanger season one finale? Although a renewal for Chainsaw Man has not been announced just yet, there is still enough of material to explore. And it’s hard to believe that Studio MAPPA wouldn’t want to cash in on all this success.
To that end, I’ve compiled all the information you’ll need to know about the upcoming second season of Chainsaw Man.

First Season of Chainsaw Man
Denji, the protagonist’s young protagonist, and Pochita, his Chainsaw Devil/dog friend, were the primary protagonists of the first season of Chainsaw Man. Denji becomes a Devil Hunter to repay the yakuza debt he inherited from his father. But he is eventually devoured by a Zombie Devil, one of many creatures that materialise from people’s worst nightmares.
Chainsaw Man, however, is the result of Denji’s resurrection and fusion with Pochita. He can transform into a sentient chainsaw by pulling the ripcord on his skull.
Over the course of the first season, he and his fellow Public Safety Devil Hunters (Power, Aki, Himeno, and Kobeni) learned the ropes and grew comfortable in their new roles. They fight villains such as Bat Devil, the Ghost Devil, and the Katana Man, and manage to capture the latter. At the end of the season, Akane is dead at the hands of the Snake Devil, the team is searching for the Gun Devil, and a mystery new woman enters the picture, asking if the viewer would choose to be a “country mouse” or a “city mouse.”
The first 38 chapters of the manga were used as the basis for the first season of Chainsaw Man. As such, you should begin with chapter 39 if you want to get a sneak peek at what the second season will cover.
Will there be a Chainsaw Man Season 2?
A second season of Chainsaw Man has not yet been announced. But it doesn’t mean it’s off the table completely. What it truly means is that there has been no official word yet that production has begun on Season 2.
At the end of the final episode of an anime series, it is not unusual for an announcement of a second season or even a movie to be made. Anime studios will often hold events or countdowns in the lead-up to a big announcement. The method and timing of announcing a new season of an anime varies widely from one series to the next. Studio MAPPA is probably saving the big announcement for a big day, as this anime is so popular.
If you consider that the Chainsaw Man manga is currently being updated, you can see that Studio MAPPA has a lot of material to work with. We’re just halfway through the season’s 12 episodes and we’ve already seen only around 4 different storylines. There are still four more stories to tell in the first volume of the manga. If the anime ends up being only 12 episodes, then I would imagine that those arcs would make up season 2.
Season 2 of Chainsaw Man has not been officially announced by MAPPA. But given the show’s tremendous success, this is likely to change soon. Season 1 has received an astounding 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And an 8.82 rating out of more than 230,000 votes on MyAnimeList. The idea that MAPPA would cancel such a critically acclaimed series as Chainsaw Man before it was finished is absurd.
When Will Chainsaw Man season 2 be Released?
Until much later this year, we won’t hear anything concrete about a second season of Chainsaw Man. Yet it is still possible to make a credible approximation of the same. MAPPA, the studio is also responsible for other large-scale anime such as Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. Let’s compare their release dates to get an approximation:

Chainsaw Man Season 2: The Plot
There is no synopsis available for Season 2 of Chainsaw Man at this time. This means that everybody’s guess as to what will happen in a potential second season is as good as anyone else’s.
As Tokyo Special Division 4 has just recently begun its activities, Season 2 of the anime, which is planned to include 12 episodes like earlier anime seasons, will see the characters continuing their search for the Gun Devil.
Following the events of the post-credits sequence from Season 1 in which Reze, a Bomb Devil/Soviet Union agent, tries to win Denji’s heart. Season 2 will feature the Bomb Girl storyline.
