Two Alarm Wildfire In Lakeview Is Put Out By Chicago Firefighters

Officials say smoke from an extra-alarm fire spilled through most of Lakeview on Friday night as firefighters rescued a lady and her dog from a burning building.

Chicago Fire Brigade spokesman Larry Langford stated that no injuries were reported despite the fact that it took crews more than an hour and a half to put out the fire that destroyed the one-story building at 3330 N. Clark St.

A dog and a woman who were sleeping in a nearby building when the fire broke out were saved by firemen, and the flames were stopped from spreading to the nearby frame building and the wooden building to the north, he said.

About 5:45 pm, a 3-11 emergency response was called for the fire, and it was extinguished by 7 pm, according to Langford.

The Catastrophe That Wiped The Floor With Civilization

At around 8:30 p.m., the ceiling of the former Thai restaurant in the building fell, prompting fire commanders to issue a Mayday warning for trapped firefighters, but shortly after, everyone was found to be safe.

Langford remarked, “It’s a miracle that the flame didn’t grab ahold of that building,” referring to the structure to the south.

Kat Vallera, a 27-year-old resident, saw smoke from her window while working on her computer and realised that a fire had broken out nearby. The freelance photographer rushed out the door with her camera just in time to capture the Samah Hooka Lounge in flames.

Vallera speculated that it had begun in the back, based on its appearance.

Samah’s shattered window shattered directly in front of the firemen’ eyes. A window suddenly burst open as they knelt before it, shooting water skyward. The heat and dust seemed to be bouncing off of you.”

She claimed that Vallera had planned to attend a fundraiser for the non-profit Music for Lombok, which provides paint brushes to children in Indonesia. Fire Service spokesman Larry Langford reported that the Roadhouse 66 building was a “complete loss” a few hours before the scheduled start time of the event.

Based on the Fire Department, the three businesses with in building that were destroyed by the incident were Samah, Highway 66, and Thai Classic.

Langford stated that eight or nine hoses were being used to douse the blaze from surrounding roofs, tower ladders, and the street, despite the fact that the structure’s roof had collapsed. If the fire continues to spread, “this structure will be nothing,” as Langford put it.

The Ruins Left Behind By The Blaze

The smoke had cleared out by the time Vallera peered out her window at around 7:30 p.m.

Smoke appeared to be exploding out of the building’s front at one point, but according to Langford, no one was hurt. Firefighters were on standby in the adjoining frame buildings, which fire authorities feared would be sparked by the inferno, but they were able to contain the incident, Langford reported.

The fire did not interrupt CTA “L” trains, however buses were redirected.

Around 6:45 p.m., firefighters seemed to send a focused stream that put out the visible flames, causing a thick cloud of smoke that fill the atmosphere.

Previously, the flames had been seen from under the northwest part of the “L” tracks. The police cordoned off the area beneath the tracks and asked the roughly 30 bystanders to leave.

They put out the fire, but authorities still had to reroute traffic between Clarke Street & Sheffield Avenue.

Part of College Street was flooded, making it a splashy experience for walkers and bicycles. At 7:45 p.m., police cars were still present but beginning to spool off their hoses to allow more cars through.
