It has been announced that Walmart would be closing a store in a Chicago suburb, further limiting the shopping options available to residents.
The company said on Wednesday that its first pick-up store would be placed at Walmart’s Lincolnwood, Illinois, location, 6840 N. Mchenry Blvd. The Walmarts at 12690 South Route 59 in Plainfield and 17550 South Halsted Street in Homewood will also be closing.

According to a story in the Chicago Tribune, the Lincolnwood Walmart store will be closing on February 17. The closing dates for the other two stores are March 10th.
Flossmoor, Illinois, publicised Walmart’s letter of closure announcement to the neighbourhood in a Facebook post. The letter was delivered by the retailer’s corporate affairs division.
The letter states, “This choice wasn’t really made lightly and also was made only after a comprehensive evaluation process.”
“Unfortunately, some of our roughly 5,000 stores throughout the United States do not generate enough revenue to fulfil our standards. Our company as a whole is doing well, but this location hasn’t done quite as well as i had intended.
There is no one reason why a store is shut down; rather, it is the culmination of a number of criteria, including past and present financial performance and conformity with the threshold that informs our policy to shutter underperforming stores.”
The mayor of Homewood, Rich Hoefeld, was quoted as saying in the post that the news came as a “surprise” and that the town “would” work with the landowner to “fill the area as soon as feasible.”

The corporation claims that all three stores’ workers have already been given the opportunity to relocate to other stores.
According to Walmart, the decision to shut the three suburban locations was made after a “thorough evaluation process” revealed the stores’ underwhelming performance. The Lincolnwood store is one of six Walton Supercenters within a 10-mile radius. Another store is located in Skokie, about a mile from Lincolnwood.
Homewood President Rich Hofeld released a message on the village’s Facebook page, expressing surprise at the news of a closure and promising to work with both the owner of the property to find a new tenant as immediately as possible.
All three of the suburban stores’ employees will be able to transfer to these other Walmart stores, McCranie said. About 180 Wal and Sam’s Club outlets may be found in the state of Illinois.
