Razer Edge 5G – the Nintendo Switch killer

Verizon announced the joint release of the Razer Edge 5G during the Cellular World Congress convention in Las Vegas. There has never been a handheld gaming console before this one, but it just so happens to be the first 5G one. Razer has built it using the power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon family.

The Razer Edge 5G is an attempt to cash in on the rising popularity of portable video game consoles. It can provide the Android operating system and the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 SoC. The company claims that the final product will shown off at the RazerCon 2022 Closing Recreation Celebration. On October 16th, you can get started.

Razer Edge 5G – the Nintendo Switch killer

It’s understandable if you have doubts about the capabilities of the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 gaming SoC. Like NVIDIA’s Tegra lineup, its primary focus is on gaming.

It has an Adreno graphics processing unit, can handle games at 144 frames per second, and adds support for 5G networks operating at frequencies below 6 GHz, 5G networks operating at frequencies above 6 GHz, and Wi-Fi 6E.

The Razer Edge 5G’s processor, what’s more, can send 4K content over USB. The MR head-mounted display can connected to a computer via the C interface.

Together, Qualcomm and Razer have introduced the event child machine with the SoC. It has a front-facing 5-megapixel camera and a 6,000 mAh battery in addition to the 6.65-inch, 120 Hz HDR OLED display screen. However, it shouldn’t be an actual Razer Edge 5G. It’s likely that the final product will look very different.

As we mentioned earlier, the Razer Edge 5G is an Android smartphone. It could play any mobile game available in the Google Play Store for that reason. There’s no way that can compete with the Nintendo Switch.

But it can also power online gaming services in the cloud. It could support cloud-based game services like NVIDIA GeForce Now and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, much like the Logitech G.

Is The Snapdragon G3X Successful?

From what we can tell from the teaser, the Razer Edge 5G has two thumbsticks, a D-Pad, and a few buttons right below the screen, with a few adaptive shoulder triggers on the back. It remains to be if Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8CX proves to a viable alternative to existing gaming processors.

While Qualcomm’s Snapdragon family has a huge success in the mobile industry, other versions have been met with some criticism. For instance, the Snapdragon 8cx family is still attempting to prove itself as a credible alternative to ARM-based computers.

Yet it’s still a long way behind Apple’s ARM family. So, we’re wondering if the Snapdragon response will be able to compete with the Tegra lineup.

Project Fiona a prototype tablet PC that included a twin-stick controller; it shared many of the same technical specs as the final product, which called the Edge. Later that year, in 2013, at CES, we saw the debut of The Edge.

When designing the Edge, Microsoft decided to remove the permanently attached controller sticks and make them an optional add-on so that the tablet could support a wider variety of input devices, such as a keyboard. Apart from its detached controller, the Edge’s design is remarkably faithful to the original Project Fiona concept.

Nintendo Switch

Released on 3 March 2017 in most of the world, the Nintendo Switch a home video game console created by Nintendo. The console is essentially a tablet that can used in two different ways: docked as a home console or carried around like a portable device.

Its Joy-Con controllers, which are wireless and feature the usual assortment of buttons and analog sticks for input, motion sensing, and tactile feedback, can attached to either side of the system, making it suitable for play in a handheld fashion.

Over 320 titles from first-party, third-party, and independent developers released by the end of 2017, far exceeding Nintendo’s initial projections of 100 titles for the first year.

Developing the Switch began soon after the Wii U’s 2012 debut. According to Kimishima, Nintendo “didn’t just want a successor” to the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U when contemplating what new hardware to produce, but rather asked, “what kind of new experience can we create?”

The Switch’s design would appeal to people of both cultures, and titles like 1-2-Switch have the potential to normalize social gaming in the West. The unit’s ability to played either on a television screen or as a portable and the use of detachable controllers both designed with this diverse market in mind.
