On Netflix, all five seasons of Queen of the South can be watched by a wider audience than when the show was first broadcast on USA Network. If you’re just now discovering the show, there’s bad news. Before the fifth season of the show could begin airing, it was abruptly canceled in March of 2021. On June 9, 2021, the USA broadcast the series’ finale, which concluded the show’s run of 62 episodes.
NBCUniversal cut the number of original scripted series produced exclusively for USA Network at the same time it canceled Queen of the South. For the past few years, the company has shifted its focus to developing scripted projects for Peacock and making the USA home for reality programming. Twenty-first Century Fox Television, which Disney acquired and renamed “20th Television,” was also involved in the production of the show through NBC Universal Content Productions.
In March 2021, NBCU Chairman of Entertainment Networks Frances Berwick told The Hollywood Reporter that “Queen of the South has captivated us for five incredible seasons with brilliant storytelling and bold, powerful characters. “We are so grateful to have worked with this incredible team of creators, cast, and crew, as well as our studio partners at 20th Television and UCP, on this ground-breaking series. As we draw to a close on this final chapter, we look forward to a fantastic season that culminates in a finale that will satisfy our fans.”
Executive producers Dailyn Rodriguez, Ben Lobato, and David Friendly were pleased with the decision to cancel the show because they were able to write the ending they desired. Production on ‘Queen of the South’ began in Mexico City and has taken them to exotic locales like Malta and Colombia before finishing in New Orleans, according to the show’s producers. “We can’t wait to show our devoted fans what we’ve been working on for the last season. And, of course, this show would not have been possible without Alice Braga, whose talent and dedication was instrumental in bringing our queen to life.”
Season 6 of Queen of the South Plot
To emerge as a top-tier comedy series, Queen of South has every incentive to do so. Producers MA Fortin and Joshua John Miller are behind the show.
The story continues with Teresa Mandoza, played by Alice Braga, and shows her humble beginnings as a terrible woman with links to drug cartels before she rises to prominence as a drug queenpin. After her boyfriend was murdered, she vowed vengeance on his killers and made choices that led to her current status.
Teresa was forced to flee Mexico after her boyfriend was murdered by a drug cartel. She took refuge in the United States and honed her bloodthirst for retribution.

Official Trailer for Season 6 of Queen of the South
Season 5 was the most recent to air. Teresa’s New York City Empire is well-documented throughout the season. After that, she decides to go to Europe with the hope of succeeding in a way she wouldn’t be willing to give up. In the end, one of her old adversaries from the CIA ruined this hope and aspiration completely. For a long time, the CIA had these plans for Mendoza.
Her personal life is also revealed in the season. She loses some of her extended family members in this location. It’s a crime and thriller, but it’s also a love story, and Teresa ends up finding love.
It was brave Teresa, however, who insisted that she was not an agent of the Soviet Union. However, she flees for a better life and fakes her own death.
Season 1 of The Queen of the South premiered on June 23, 2016, and this season’s final episode will air on June 9, 2021. The USA Network aired all 62 episodes of the series.
What is the reason for the cancellation of Queen of the South Season 6?
“For five incredible seasons, Queen of the South has captivated us with brilliant storytelling and bold, powerful characters,” Entertainment Networks (which owns USA) chairperson Frances Berwick said in a statement at the time.
“We are so grateful to have worked with this incredible team of creators, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at 20th Television and UCP, on this groundbreaking series. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to a fantastic season culminating in a finale that will give our fans the ending they deserve”
At the time of the show’s cancellation, USA was still the most-watched network for original dramas.
There has been confirmation of a sixth season of “Queen of the South,” but there may be a significant delay.
So, what was the rationale behind the decision to cancel? Why? Because they are no longer producing their own dramas. The Sinner, Queen of the South, and Dirty John were the last three original dramas on the channel when the show ended. Neither The Sinner nor Dirty John has been renewed for a third season as of November 2021. The first season of USA’s original series Chucky aired in late 2021 (alongside Syfy), but a second season has yet to be announced, meaning the network currently lacks any original dramas.
Netflix could bring back Queen of the South if they decide to do so. Yes, but so far they haven’t done so with a popular American show, like Dare Me, that they’ve had success with. Also, the series finale aired on the USA nearly a year ago, and no news of a Netflix reimagining has emerged since.
Dailyn Rodriguez, the show’s co-executive producer, spoke to Deadline about the opportunity to bring the show to a close. “I felt this enormous peace and beauty, ending the series,” she reflected. With Teresa’s death, I believe this series has the potential to be incredibly gruesome, violent, and depressing on a number of different levels. Ending the series in this sunny, beautiful location that is unlike anything we’ve seen before on the show is full of poetry and beauty… “I’m hoping the audience will feel the same way about that ending,” says the author.
Queen of the South Season 6 Story Line
When the Vargas Cartel assassinates Teresa Mendoza’s lover in the first season of the television series, she goes on to build a drug empire. Camilla Vargas, the wife of Epifanio Vargas, the man who had stolen her lover’s copy of the Operation Manual, rescued her and brought her to safety in the United States.
When James realized she was talented in math, he helped support her career as a drug trafficker. She gave Camilla a copy of the book and pleaded with her to work on the project with them. While Epifanio Vargas pursues her in a new realm, she begins a new journey of her own, engaging in transactions and forming alliances.

Although there is a three-year time jump in the show, viewers can see what the characters are up to now. What on earth are you talking about? I made the decision to live, “she explained.
