Despite not being included in the DCU Chapter 1 schedule, fans of the HBO Max series Peacemaker should not panic; James Gunn has provided a positive update on the development.
Gunn, who has been co-CEO with the blue brand since November, recently revealed his aspirations for DC Studios.
A new Superman film, a Green Lantern television series, and an animated Creature Commandos program were among the 10 new projects teased by the director-turned-executive. However, John Cena’s Peacemaker was conspicuously omitted from the list.
Gunn promised last fall that filming for Season 2 of Peacemaker would begin “in only a few months,” but the project now seems to have been put on hold.
What Happened To Peacemaker?
DC Entertainment co-CEO James Gunn spoke to Twitter to address concerns regarding Season 2 of Peacemaker after they were raised in the internet community.
While the DC executive focuses on “Superman: Legacy [and] Waller first,” Gunn responded to a tweet asking whether the second season of Peacemaker had been canceled by saying that it had been “simply postponed.”
Superman: Legacy, written by DC Studios boss Gunn, and Waller, written by Doom Patrol’s Jeremy Carver and Watchmen’s Christal Henry, were both unveiled as a component of Gunn’s DCU reveal.
A month ago, Gunn discussed Waller and the possibility of reintroducing Viola Davis’s character from Suicide Squad. Gunn’s co-CEO Peter Safran, however, elaborated, adding that Waller would “sit between Peacemaker Season 1 and Season 2,” thus the HBO Max series may be seen of as “essentially following on Peacemaker.”
In an interview with The Wrap, James Gunn referred to Waller as “a continuation” of John Cena’s superpowered series, confirming the opinion of many.
When Will Season 2 Of “Peacemaker” Be Available To Stream?
Those who were concerned that Peacemaker Season 2 will not be returning need not fear. It will still happen; when is uncertain. Even though manufacturing was set to begin a matter of months ago, things have altered now that Gunn is in charge of the blue brand.
When will the second season of the soldier Cena’s DC miniseries become available online? It’s going to take some time. James Gunn is currently busy on many DCU projects, the most prominent of which being Superman: Legacy.
If Gunn is confirmed to helm the Superman remake, then fans may expect to see Peacemaker again sooner rather than later. This will be delayed even more if the Justice League executive intends to be as active in Season 2 of Peacemaker as he did in Season 1.
If Gunn is to direct Superman: Legacy (as his business partner Peter Safran hopes), then Season 2 of Peacemaker will likely be delegated to a new creative team, with Gunn serving in an advising capacity.
It’s possible that fans won’t see Peacemaker return to screens until late 2024 or 2025 at the earliest, given that Waller (together with Creature Commandos) is planned to premiere as a bit of a DCU entrée before it actually takes off with Legacy.
Additionally, Peacemaker survived the August 2022 round of DC closures. Although Gunn has mentioned that he is currently working on the DC movies Superman Legacy and Waller, we didn’t hear anything about it when he revealed the new DCU Chapter 1 slate.
The second season of Peacemaker has been cancelled, Gunn said when approached by a fan. While he was busy with Legacy, he wrote, “Heck no, simply postponed.” Start with Waller. Soon after 6 o’clock”
The most probable year is 2025 or 2026. There is still a lot to do on the show, but if all goes according to plan, Season 2 of Peacemaker might come out around the time when Superman: Legacy premieres on July 11, 2025.
