August has been set as the date for the return of Star Trek: Lower Decks. The third season of Paramount’s half-hour Star Trek animated comedy series will premiere on Thursday, August 25th, exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, following which the remaining nine episodes of the 10-episode season will be released weekly on Thursdays. This news comes after Paramount debuted a new clip from the series last week. The official key art for the upcoming third season was also revealed by Paramount+ and pays homage to the Star Trek III: The Search for Spock theatrical poster. Listed below is a picture of the new key art poster.
After last week’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds finale, Star Trek fans have been without new episodes for the first time in 30 weeks. The announcement of the premiere date is much-needed relief. It appears that the new Star Trek is not far off. Saturday, July 23rd in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con is the date for a panel involving the Star Trek universe, including Lower Decks and Strange New World, that promises new information and surprises.
Lower Decks Season 3 Release Date
This year, Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 will premiere on Thursday, August 25, 2022, with 10 episodes and a total runtime of approximately half an hour each episode.
In June 2022, the official Star Trek Twitter account tweeted the poster and the most recent updates to its followers, quoting, “A framed captain. They’re a motley crew. Season 3 is still eluding us.
What Is The Plot Of Star Trek: Lower Decks?
When it comes to its tone, humor, and visuals, it has never shied away from taking on the role of “Star Trek’s” redheaded stepchild. More like “Rick and Morty” and less like “The Animated Series,” “Lower Decks” centers on an assortment of Starfleet officers serving on the USS Cerritos who get into mischief while on duty. In keeping with the events of “Nemesis,” the episode from which the title comes, “Lower Decks” offers a fresh look at the utopian future of the 24th century, primarily through the eyes of those forced to work in the worst positions on a cutting-edge spaceship… though the ship they’re stuck on is far from the futuristic sterility of the Enterprise.
Almost every episode is filled to overflowing with nerdy “Star Trek” allusions, callbacks, and off-color jokes that would put even Captain Jean-Luc Picard into a coma. Those nostalgic for the look and feel of “The Original Series” will enjoy the retro feel of “Strange New Worlds.” For those who prefer their television shows action-packed and up-to-date, “Discovery” is a good bet. “Prodigy,” a new animated series for kids and newcomers, is available for those who prefer a different approach.
“Lower Decks” is also ready and willing to provide raunchy, adult-skewing animated humor to those who enjoy it. For the most part, this series proves that “Star Trek” fans can enjoy a variety of stories and characters.
