The second annual Winter Ice Sculpture Show on Governors Island is being co-hosted by the Governors Island Arts and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

On Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m., the Governors Island Winter Village will play host to this once-in-a-lifetime event. New Yorkers and visitors from all over the world will be able to enjoy the open space, cultural, educational, and historic resources, and attractions that the Island offers every day of the year thanks to the celebratory event.

This winter, Governor’s Island is the place to be, with activities ranging from ice skating on a 7,500-square-foot rink and bonfires to lawn games and bike and sled rentals.

The Winter Ice Sculpture Show, presented by Governors Island Arts and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), will return for its second year on Saturday, February 18th.

The Winter Village on Governors Island has returned for another season, as recently announced by the Trust for Governors Island. Following its successful debut last year, the seasonal destination is returning for a second season.

Late in 2022, Governors Island Arts and LMCC issued a design submission open call for New York City-based creatives. In this live, continuous ice sculpting session, the artists will bring to life the ten concepts chosen by a panel of New York City’s cultural heavy hitters. On the day of the event, Okamoto Studio will pair each chosen artist with one of their expert ice carvers. Tourists can watch the ice sculptors work live and then choose their favourite creation to win the “People’s Choice Award.”
