The second annual Winter Ice Sculpture Show on Governors Island is being co-hosted by the Governors Island Arts and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
On Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m., the Governors Island Winter Village will play host to this once-in-a-lifetime event. New Yorkers and visitors from all over the world will be able to enjoy the open space, cultural, educational, and historic resources, and attractions that the Island offers every day of the year thanks to the celebratory event.
According to Clare Newman, President and CEO of the Trust for Governors Island, “the yearly ice sculpture show provides direct support for local artists and brings New Yorkers another wonderful, fleeting public art experience on Governors Island in the winter months.” “If you’re looking for a unique incentive to travel to the Island this winter, this is it. New Yorkers have a place to “relax” (haha) all winter long at Governors Island’s Winter Village, which returns for a second year to delight guests of all ages with its abundance of holiday cheer.
This winter, Governor’s Island is the place to be, with activities ranging from ice skating on a 7,500-square-foot rink and bonfires to lawn games and bike and sled rentals.
The Winter Ice Sculpture Show, presented by Governors Island Arts and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), will return for its second year on Saturday, February 18th.

Governors Island Winter Village
Visitors of all ages can enjoy the festive atmosphere and exciting wintertime activities at the Governor’s Island Winter Village on Colonel’s Row.
New Yorkers will once again be treated to a winter paradise on Governors Island this year, complete with a 7,500 square foot ice skating rink!
The Winter Village on Governors Island has returned for another season, as recently announced by the Trust for Governors Island. Following its successful debut last year, the seasonal destination is returning for a second season.
Every conceivable type of celebratory activity is available to guests of all ages. The Village has a skating rink that’s 7,500 square feet in size, fire pits where you can warm up with a drink, lawn activities, and you can even rent bicycles and sleds!
Ice Sculpting At Governors Island
New Yorkers and tourists alike may enjoy all the island has to offer during the winter, including live ice carving demos, during the ice sculpting competition.

10 Artists Selected For Competition

Late in 2022, Governors Island Arts and LMCC issued a design submission open call for New York City-based creatives. In this live, continuous ice sculpting session, the artists will bring to life the ten concepts chosen by a panel of New York City’s cultural heavy hitters. On the day of the event, Okamoto Studio will pair each chosen artist with one of their expert ice carvers. Tourists can watch the ice sculptors work live and then choose their favourite creation to win the “People’s Choice Award.”
