WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN At least two Wisconsin legislators received emails from Ginni Thomas, a longtime conservative activist and the wife of a U.S. Supreme Court justice, in the days after President Donald Trump’s 2020 loss, urging them to change the outcome of Wisconsin’s presidential election.
Using a mass emailing programme, Thomas asked Senate Elections Committee chairwoman Kathy Bernier and state Rep. Gary Tauchen, R-Bonduel, to “take action to ensure that a clean slate of Electors is chosen for our state” on November 9, 2020, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel using public records requests.
The Washington Post, which first reported Thomas’ emails to Wisconsin legislators, has also obtained his messages to legislators in Arizona, another swing state, urging them to take similar measures.
Bernier told the Journal Sentinel that Thomas might have emailed all Wisconsin legislators, but that she and Tauchen kept all of the copies. To the extent that no citizen has specifically requested a legislator’s emails, the law permits them to be deleted.
It wasn’t like she took the time to sit down and compose an email to me and Gary Tauchen, Bernier said in an interview.
In June, the Journal Sentinel asked for all emails sent between Thomas and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos beginning in July of 2020. Vos’ staff members said there weren’t any relevant files in the office.

The top ethics lawyer in the White House during the Bush administration, Richard Painter, recently called Ginni Thomas’s writing “very problematic” in a phone interview.
