Kelly Rowland, of the group Destiny’s Child, is still in top form even though she is nine months along in her pregnancy.
On Thursday, Rowland posted an astonishing video to Instagram of herself performing a wall sit, squats, and donkey kicks while pregnant with her second child with husband Tim Weatherspoon.
Rowland, 39, exposes her growing baby belly in the video while wearing black leggings and a coral sports bra.
To prevent the second case of diastasis recti, or abdominal separation, Rowland has been working out regularly during her pregnancy. Rowland mentioned working on strength training with trainer Rebecca Broxterman in an October 2020 TODAY Parents interview.
“Rebecca has so much education regarding the condition,” Rowland said. As one reviewer put it, “She gets the female form. Just what I was looking for, she is.
In October, Rowland appeared on the cover of Women’s Health to share the news that she was expecting. She was five months along at the time.
“We had been talking about it informally, and then COVID happened, and we were just like, ‘Let’s see what happens,'” she said to the media outlet. She wasn’t expecting it, but they got pregnant right away.
“I’m Discovering So Much Of Who I Am And What I’ve Been Missing All These Years”
Her days were hectic before the pandemic and before she became pregnant. In Los Angeles, Kelly would start the day with oatmeal sweetened with raspberries and sometimes sprinkled with chia seeds or flaxseeds when she wasn’t jetting over to Sydney to coach on the Australian edition of The Voice.
She’d drop Titan off at school before heading to the Dogpound gym or her trainer, Massy Arias, for a 90-minute workout.
Kelly was the type to mix up her workouts (cardio, weighted crunches, band work), but there was always that point in the middle when the endorphins were starting to kick in and she was daydreaming about the snack she knew was waiting for her after she was done.
(“I have a sandwich addiction,” she admits, and her expression becomes wistful. “…a turkey sandwich on rye bread with mustard and sprouts and onion and, on occasion, avocado…” )
Then, there was a slew of meetings to attend while driving slowly in traffic, after returning from the gym and showering and stretching, and while waiting to pick up Titan from school.
The highlight of her day is the time she puts down her phone and plays with no distractions. Her son is currently obsessed with dinosaurs and likes dressing his mother up in a costume so that they can play together. “When he’s ready to play, it’s extremely genuine,” she says.
“I could put on a complete dinosaur head, complete with paws—well, not paws, but you know, hands? Whatever!”
Kelly Claims She Was Unprepared For The Challenges Of Raising A Young Black Son In Today’s Society
Since the night her grief over the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor overpowered her, she has also begun taking time each morning to practice deep breathing as a form of self-care.
Just put Titan to bed, she says. I went to the bathroom and sobbed my heart out in the shower.
I made a pact to take care of my child. This tiny one’s purity was my first concern.
Kelly says she never could have imagined the challenges she would face raising a young Black son in today’s society. Although she is taking it gradually.
Kelly avoids showing Titan distressing content by turning off the TV news if he is in the room, with the exception of a CNN/Sesame Workshop special on racism.
She’s also become more selective with her own attention by reducing her time spent on social media.
It’s important to keep your gates secure, she warns, since “the scroll factor is deadly.” Strangely, just hours after we spoke, a new video emerged from Wisconsin showing a Kenosha police officer fatally shooting Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old unarmed Black man, in the back many times as his children looked on.
