On August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York, the world was introduced to Lucille Ball. Her mother became a widow at a young age after the death of Ball’s father. Her mother remarried after some time. Ball realised at the age of 12 that performing was her passion.

At 1925, her mother enrolled her in John Murray Anderson School of Dramatic Arts after she had already taken numerous acting courses. There, she learned from renowned instructors and counted future Hollywood icon Bette Davis among her classmates. Ball was unhappy at school, and her instructors did not think highly of her because of this.

Death of Lucille Ball

After complaining of chest issues, Ball was brought to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on April 18, 1989. After a diagnosis of dissecting aortic aneurysm, she underwent a successful seven-hour aortic valve replacement operation. 

Ball woke up on April 26 with severe back pain and never fully recovered; she passed away at 5:47 a.m. PDT at the age of 77. Ball’s death was found to be unrelated to the operation she had undergone. As it was caused by a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Ball had been an avid smoker for the majority of her life, and aortic aneurysms are more common in people who do so.

 Her mother was also laid to rest in Los Angeles. Thus after her cremation, her remains were placed next to her mother’s grave at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills Cemetery. 

Ball had “shooting pains in her chest” on April 17, 1989, at her Beverly Hills, California, home, according to Mental Floss. She was diagnosed with a dissecting aortic aneurysm after being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. By her husband Gary Morton and daughter Lucie Arnaz. Ball had an operation to replace her aortic valve and repair her aorta, which took six and a half hours.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Ball had made a full recovery from the operation. And she was discharged after eating and walking around in her hospital room. People said that upon awakening from anaesthesia, Ball was fully conscious and alert. According to the article, when Morton woke up, Ball was there to ask, “How’s the dog doing?” He assured her that Tinker was in good shape. Then she inquired, “Was it a large surgery?” “It was a major operation, but a good one,” he reflected.

Husband of Lucille Ball

Two marriages occurred during the course of the star’s life.

I Love Lucy creator Desi Arnaz Sr., a Cuban-American actor, musician, bandleader, comedian, and film and television producer, was married to Ball from 1940 to 1960. Arnaz had a long career that included roles in shows like I Love Lucy and films like Holiday in Havanna and The Long, Long Trailer.

Arnaz also gained notoriety for her work as the show’s executive producer for all 80 episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series, which aired from 1966 to 1969. He passed away from lung cancer on December 2, 1986, at the age of 69.

When Ball and Arnaz Sr. were together, they had two children: Lucie Arnaz, now 70, and Desi Arnaz Jr., now 68. Ball remarried American stand-up comedian Gary Morton after her divorce from Desi Arnaz. The marriage of Morton and Ball began in 1961 and lasted until her death in 1989.
