How Do Shared Worlds Work In Grounded? ( Additionally, Your Hard Work In Your Standard World Is Not Lost)

The final pre-launch patch for Grounded, a multiplayer survival game inspired by Honey I Shrunk the Kids and developed by Obsidian Entertainment, has released in anticipation of the game’s September release.

The patch added a handful of tweaks and a cool “secret feature” called Shared Worlds.

The creator of a player-hosted server can now save it to the cloud as a Shared World, simplifying the process of joining up with friends to play.

This allows for a backup host to take over the server in the event that the primary host goes down. No matter who hosts the Shared World, all progress will preserved.

How do Shared Worlds work in Grounded?

Through the Save/Load menu, players can convert Standard Worlds into Shared Worlds, with a maximum of three of their own and fifty shared with them at any given time.

Only one player at a time can act as host for a Shared World, but the world can played by multiple people at once. They can played as a local Standard World or copied and shared with other players to played locally on their end, and they are accessible on all platforms.

It’s important to note that this feature is still in beta testing, so players may run into issues that force them to delete or reload their shared saves while Obsidian works to iron out the kinks. The studio cautioned against using a “test save” containing significant progress as the only operational copy of the world.

It is possible to host a single-player session in a Standard World, but Shared Worlds can only hosted in a multi-player setting. Any progress made in a world will “properly restored regardless of who hosts the world next” because only one person can host a world at a time.

Standard Worlds Can Become Shared Worlds

The good news that a Standard World can converted into a multiplayer-focused Shared World in Grounded by using the Save / Load menu. On the flip side, you can make a local copy of any Shared World you own or have shared with and play it whenever you like.

Grounded’s miniature backyard shenanigans really shine in cooperative play, as it’s great fun to work with others to construct a safe haven for everyone and spiders are much less terrifying when you’ve got back-up.

Obsidian has announced a Shared Worlds feature in the final days before the 1.0 release of Grounded on September 27.

The concept is as follows: you can make a Shared World in the cloud, accessible to other players even when you’re not there to host it. This means less time spent coordinating schedules and more time spent squashing bugs.

Obsidian detailed the benefits of the in-development Shared Worlds feature and why players should be excited about it in a forum post this week.

Some Limitations To Keep In Mind

However, there is a catch: while you can only “own” three Shared Worlds at any given time, you can have as many as fifty of them shared with you. Finally, bear in mind that “Shared Worlds can only played by hosting it as a Multiplayer game.”

 Shared Worlds Limitations

Having said that, I can imagine this content seeing a lot of use, as it a feature that “expected” in a survival/crafting game with multiplayer support.

Talk about a pleasant surprise in the lead-up to the late-September release of Grounded. While playing solo is enjoyable in its own right.

I’ll need to make some preparations for the upcoming 1.0 release in order to make the most of the simplified multiplayer setup and other new features. This game has been developing relatively quietly, but it has the potential to be massive.

Does Grounded Have Co-op Multiplayer?

There local four-player co-op play available in Grounded, with each player taking on the role of one of four teenagers (Max, Willow, Pete, or Hoops) who have been shrunk to a tiny size and are now lost in a garden.

If you want to play with friends, you’ll need to give them each their own console or PC and a copy of the game — there is no local split-screen mode.

Cross-platform play between Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC allows for online co-op play for up to four players on a dedicated server. However, there is no random online matchmaking, so players on Steam will need the Xbox app if they want to play with their friends.

How To Set Up An Online Game In Grounded

In Grounded, one player must go to the main menu, click “Multiplayer,” and then click “Host Online Game” to begin an online game. Once this done, the player can choose between continuing in their current world or creating a brand-new one.

Shared Worlds, which introduced in August, make it possible to save one’s entire game progress online. Once created, this Shared World can sent to friends so that they, too, can host it when the original host is offline.
