Kanye West Is Dropping His Gap Partnership To Focus On His Own Retail Ventures!

Gap and the hip-hop star Ye officially end their partnership

Kanye West and the clothing company Gap have ended their relationship. The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday (September 15) that the Donda 2 rapper-producer is closing his Yeezy Gap brand after two years.

Last Thursday, Ye’s attorneys notified Gap in writing that the artist was terminating the company’s contract with Yeezy LLC. The letter claims that Gap failed to meet its obligations by delaying the rollout of certain products and the opening of locations.

Nicholas Gravante, West’s attorney and co-chair of the litigation group at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, said in a statement to CNN, “Gap’s extensive noncompliance with its contractual obligations has been costly.

” The delay in launching Yeezy outlets will be quickly remedied, as “Ye will now immediately move forward to make up for a lost time.”

Even though Ye’s collaboration with Gap was announced in June 2020, the two companies’ relationship has since deteriorated. He has spoken out against the firm for allegedly stealing his ideas and diminishing his input.

“Too Excessive,” You Say?

The latest time West has to sever ties with Gap is the second time he has done so. When he was a teen living in Chicago, he got a job at a groundbreaking spot. In his song “Spaceship,” he describes his experience working at the Gap and dealing with racism from his coworkers.

Too excessive, you say

According to Neil Saunders, CEO of GlobalData Retail, the split between Ye and Gap was to be expected. Saunders called Gap

“a conservative corporation with an antiquated brand that normally eschews dramatic actions,” while he described Ye as “a radical inventor who loves to change things up.”

Saunders, in an email, said that West’s departure is “a hit to the company,” and that “in some ways, Kanye was too radical for Gap.”

During their earnings call last month, the gap revealed a net loss of $49 million for the second quarter. A decline in revenues of 8% to $3.86 billion was recorded, with the firm blaming weak Old Navy sales.

Stock in Gap fell 3% on Thursday, to $9.06, and is down 73% in the past year.

Saunders argued that if the acrimonious separation went to court, it would be a distraction for Gap at a time when it needed to revive its core business.

West has also been feuding with Adidas as of late, claiming that the German athletic equipment brand started a Yeezy Day sale without consulting him. When 2014 rolled around, Adidas and Ye entered into an apparel relationship.

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Kasseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean, two other musicians-turned-businessmen, have also promised to withhold their Adidas purchases until the corporation mends its ties with West. Ye has been very vocal about his displeasure with Adidas and Gap in recent weeks, venting his grievances in a series of now-deleted Instagram postings.
