Everything We Know About Damar Hamlin’s Collapse, Cardiac Arrest In Bills vs. Bengals Game

Damar Hamlin, a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills, was in critical condition early Tuesday morning after the team reported that his heart had stopped beating following a tackle he made during the Monday Night Football game, which had been postponed indefinitely.

After collapsing on the field during the first quarter of the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, which was being broadcast on national television, Hamlin received medical treatment on the field for close to twenty minutes before being transported to a hospital.

“After taking a hit during our game against the Bengals, Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and passed away.”

The Bills said in a statement that the player’s heartbeat was restarted on the field before he was taken to the UC Medical Center for additional testing and treatment. “At this time, he is unconscious and listed in critical condition,” the doctor said.

The game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday was called off after a collapse by Bills safety Damar Hamlin with 5 minutes and 58 seconds left in the first quarter. According to the NFL, Hamlin is in extremely critical condition.

Early on Tuesday morning, the Bills made the unfortunate announcement that Hamlin had experienced a heart arrest.

On the scene, his heartbeat was restarted, and then he was sent to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further examination and treatment. According to the Bills, Hamlin is currently under the influence of sedatives.

After a gain of 13 yards, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins was brought down by Hamlin, a second-year player from Pittsburgh. The play did not stand out in any way. Hamlin attempted to stand but ended up falling back down.

On the playing field, an ambulance was brought out. Hamlin received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for almost ten minutes before being placed on a stretcher, as stated by the play-by-play announcer Joe Buck. A dose of oxygen was administered to him just before the ambulance arrived.

The decision to postpone the game was supported by the National Football League Players Association.

In a statement, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) said that they and everyone else in the community are praying for Damar Hamlin.

“We have been in communication with players from both the Bills and the Bengals, as well as with the NFL. The only thing that is important right now is Damar’s health and well-being. Nothing else matters.”

NFL Says Resuming Game Was Never An Option

Players for both the Bills and the Bengals were “traumatised” by what they saw on the field, according to NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent, and the two teams agreed to call off Monday’s game.

Vincent lamented, “There was no time for the guys to get warmed up.” To be really honest, all we requested was that Shawn (McDermott) coordinate time in the locker room with both head coaches to discuss what they thought was best.

NFL Says Resuming Game Was Never An Option

Consequently, I can’t say for certain where the idea originated that the game would continue immediately after the break. As for a five-minute warm-up, the thought has never even occurred to me. And it was I — and I don’t mean this in a conceited way —

who was the one talking to the commissioner. Warming up to get back into the game was never even a consideration. What a terrible idea. That’s inconsiderate, and we have no business being there.

Josh Allen, Teammates Emotional On Sidelines

The expressions on the players’ faces said it all. Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, appeared frightened, as players from both teams clustered around the ambulance.

Many of the players were on their knees, and a few could be seen crying.

Referee Shawn Smith declared a temporary suspension of play after Bills head coach Sean McDermott talked with his Bengals opponent Zac Taylor.

“Truth be told, neither head coach nor any of the players were discussing a possible return to competition. Vincent, who played in the NFL from 1992 to 2006, acknowledged as much on the conference call.

“It was really about Damar.” “Since I started playing, I’ve never encountered anything like it. As a result, I switched into player mode right away.

The question is how to pick up where you left off after witnessing something so shocking in real life. That’s also how our minds had been wrapping around it. We, including the commissioner, and others”

Game Suspended

After the cameras caught the two coaches reuniting in the stadium tunnel (where they were seen passing a cell phone back and forth), the Bills’ locker room doors opened, and the team’s players emerged. Joe Burrow, DJ Reader,

Ted Karras, and Joe Mixon, the leaders of the Bengals, followed their teammates into the locker room. The Bills’ equipment crew started clearing the sideline before they heard the official word from the league. The game was called at 10 p.m. ET, an hour and five minutes after Hamlin’s fall.

Game Suspended

Nobody knew if the game would be continued or not. NFL Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs, and Policy Jeff Miller declined to disclose a contingency plan when asked by reporters about rescheduling the game because he wanted to maintain the focus on Hamlin’s illness.

Miller emphatically stated, “Not thinking about it right now.” “It’s important to us that the player is well and happy. I have no doubt that we will discuss the game’s future at the appropriate moment.”

Final Words

Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, fainted with 5:58 left in the first quarter on Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. According to the NFL, Hamlin’s situation is quite grave.

The Bills revealed Hamlin’s heart arrest early Tuesday morning. Before being taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for additional evaluation and treatment, his heartbeat was recovered on the field. According to the Bills, Hamlin has been sedated at the moment.

Pittsburgh’s Hamlin, a second-year player, snuffed off a 13-yard gain for Cincinnati’s Tee Higgins with a tackle. Basically, the play didn’t do much of anything. Hamlin attempted to stand but fell on the floor instead.
