Suspected Drunk Driver Sideswipes Patrol Car

The public knows that the police have a strong aversion to anybody who intentionally hurt one of their own or cause damage to their property. And that encompasses their patrol vehicles as well.

Therefore, the driver who may or may not have been intoxicated when they sideswiped a patrol car in Ypsilanti the other day is not going to win any friends among the officers who work there, regardless of whether or not the driver was intoxicated at the time.

According to the statements of Ypsilanti police Sergeant Joe Yuhas, a Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputy was conducting a traffic check near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Hewitt Road at approximately 8:15 p.m. on that day.

The deputy’s patrol car was struck on the side by a maroon van that appeared out of nowhere. However, the motorist did not stop at any point. Instead, the van proceeded southbound along Michigan Avenue until it was no longer visible.

Through Central Dispatch, the details of the event were relayed to all of the police who were stationed in the surrounding region. The driver who caused the accident and then fled the scene was looked for.

Officers eventually found a van that matched the description of the fleeing vehicle parked in the parking area of The Meadows apartments on Meadow Woods Boulevard in Ypsilanti Township. The apartments are located on Meadow Woods Boulevard.

When the authorities came upon the van, the driver was still seated inside the vehicle; however, as soon as he knew that his locations had been found, he took off running.

According to the officers that responded to the call, the driver is a guy who jumped out of the van and ran away on foot. However, following a brief police pursuit, he was apprehended and taken into custody by the authorities.

At this point, it is believed that the driver was impaired at the time of the collision with the patrol car; however, the police have not made any statements confirming or denying that this was the case.

The motorist was given over to the custody of the Michigan State Police, who are currently conducting an investigation into the event.

However, if it turns out that the driver who sideswiped the deputy’s car was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, he will have much bigger problems than a DUI. In addition to this, there is a strong possibility that he will be charged with escaping the scene of an accident, eluding law enforcement, and potentially even charges related to property damage.

All of these offences are highly likely to be brought against him. All of these allegations are fairly serious, and if the defendant is found guilty, he or she might spend a significant amount of time in jail.

There has been no further disclosure of information regarding his impending court proceedings, nor has any information been made public that could be used to identify him.
