Driver Slams Into FHP Car During Traffic Stop On Veterans Expressway

After pulling over two vehicles for traffic violations, a Florida Highway Patrol officer was involved in an accident involving an SUV that left him with “minimal injuries” according to the official report of the collision.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place about 11:10 a.m. on New Year’s Day on the Veterans Expressway heading southbound in the general area of Hutchinson Road in Hillsborough County.

According to the agency, the trooper had pulled over a car because the driver was going too fast. During the time that the traffic stop was taking place, both of their vehicles were pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway.

It was at that time that an SUV driven by a man the highway patrol could only describe as being 52 years old and hailing from New Port Richey collided with a trooper’s patrol cruiser. The impact of that collision sent the cruiser ahead, where it collided with the vehicle that had been pulled over.
