The Philadelphia Eagles welcome and play host the New York Jets in their final exhibition game of the 2018-19 NFL Preseason on Thursday night, August 30 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NY Jets managed to outperform the reigning Super Bowl champions, 16-10, in their last preseason encounter.
The fourth exhibition contest is typically where all of the starting football players usually sideline and the backups showcase what they can do to win the second string jobs. So, we will likely be seeing Teddy Bridgewater and recently landed quarterback John Wolford under center for the Jets.
As for offensive side, there are quite a few players who need to perform above mediocre should they want to make the final 53-man roster cut. Offensive tackle Brent Qvale is likely the most pivotal player who needs to have a massive game. Qvale has struggled tremendously in the exhibition and New York might have to start him at left-wing should Kelvin Beachum is not ready for Week 1 of the 2018-19 NFL regular season.
Moreover, wide receivers Chad Hansen, Ardarius Stewart and Charles Johnson need to execute a better performance. As for the tight end jobs, all of them need to show up because this competition for the position isn’t over just yet and there is no clear favorite. The backup running backs, on the other side of the gridiron, also need to standout to determine who gets the No. 3 string on the depth chart.
As for defense, the starting job to keep an eye on is outside linebacker position. Lorenzo Mauldin, Dylan Donahue and David Bass all have guts and something to prove as they are being outscored right now by big men like Brandon Copeland and Frankie Luvu.
The Philadelphia Eagles will rest most of their star players for their final preseason contest against the Jets. That means neither Carson Wentz or Nick Foles will play at quarterback for the Eagles, though ex-Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg is expected to make his 2018 debut against his former team at some point.
