Google will not release the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL until the fall 2018, but we have learned about a couple of not so new features that may include to the rumored smartphones: the wireless charging and squeezable chassis.
The indication unearthed from Google’s Android P Beta 2 mobile operating system software update. XDA Developers spent some time dredging up through the Google’s new Android P OS code and found substantial proofs that the Mountain View-headquartered search giant could be adding support for a new wireless charging dock.
The code uses references including “com.google” instead of using “com.android” when detailing the wireless charger, which could only indicate that it’s made certainly for Google consumer electronics products or is Google branded devices.
Last month, Google Pixel 3 leaks surfaced over the Internet claim that it may come with a glass on the back panel, which could point to wireless charging capability. For a a number of purposes, mobile phone OEMs usually don’t offer wireless charging in devices with metal unibody, and a strong glass is a good casing alternative to metal. However, not every phone with back panel glass comes with wireless charging support though.
In recent years, Google smartphones — including the Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 — support wireless charging. But the feature was ditched in the tech company’s 2015 lineups — the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P — and hasn’t come reemerge since then. The good news is that Google may bring wireless charging feature back to its 2018 Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL high-end smartphones to compete with the likes of Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone X as well as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
The report also indicated that Google Pixel 3 could have squeezable frame. This certain feature first appeared on the HTC U11 and users could customize which app to be opened when squeezed. Squeezable sides also been equipped on the Pixel 2 devices as a quick way to open Google Assistant. Since HTC’s engineers also work on Google’s Pixel smartphones, may be the feature will get some added functionalities should it arrive to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
