James will be playing in his eighth straight Eastern Conference Finals when the Celtics and Cavs take against each other for Sunday afternoon’s Game 1.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics are about to play the Game 1 of their best of seven series for the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday afternoon. This series between the Cavs and Celtics is a rematch of last year’s conference finals, which LeBron James and his crew managed to clinch a berth for the NBA Finals in five matchups as Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas faced off. Meanwhile, this year’s series between Cleveland and Boston will look a lot different.
Last postseason, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers knocked down Isiah Thomas and the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. This year, LeBron’s and Isiah’s Cavs will face Irving’s Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, only without Irving who is recovering from injury.
The Cavaliers swept the Toronto Raptors easily in the conference semifinals earlier this year, looking like a powerhouse roster for the first time in months. LeBron James himself was remarkable, posting an average of 34 points on 55 percent shooting, 11 assists, and eight rebounds. Can the Celtics stop him and an improved Kevin Love, who averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds in the series against the Raptors?
Tee Celtics may have been a conference finals contender favorite dating back in October, but this is barely the ball club we seen to be after Gordon Hayward signed as a free agent, and Kyrie Irving was traded from the Cavs. Boston head coach Brad Stevens has somehow pushed a young core talent of rookie Jayson Tatum, sophomore Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier to fill the deficiency.
