Apple has officially unveiled the features, specifications, release date, and all other detailed information about its 10th-anniversary iPhone X along side the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3 and the Apple 4K TV. The flagship smartphone unquestionably has the gadzooks factor to the crowd. The handset completely has a new radical design on the front, the same rounded frame introduced in iPhone 6 minus the white antenna band but now it’s stainless, the front-and-back glass panel from the iPhone 4, depth-sensing Face ID, an incredibly fast A11 Bionic SoC processor, augmented reality, an improved dual camera with Portrait Lighting on both front and rear, and many more.
But, thanks to the rumors, we already have a head start and we knew nearly everything about the iPhone X ahead its announcement. The handset wasn’t much of a surprise. The leaks also gave us indications what the phone would exactly look like and how much it will be priced. But the forthcoming Google Pixel 2 event is a different story from the Apple’s.
Google Pixel 2 event remains a mystery.
The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 launch event will be held on October 4, accurately a full 12-months since the search giant company first introduced the original Pixel and its larger sib Pixel XL. The Mountain View-headquartered firm is utilizing a pretty distinctive marketing strategy to publicize the launch event. Google placed up giant LED electronics billboards in major cities nationwide. A billboard in Boston prints, “Ask more of your phone.” It is followed by Google’s prominent letter ‘G’ iconic logo and the revelation date on “Oct. 4.”
On its “Made by Google” webpage, the search engine goddess says, “Thinking about changing phones? Stay tuned for more on October 4.”

It’s a clear evidence that the Pixel 2 launching is just a quite little over a couple of week away. However, Google hasn’t announced the time, venue, and other information regarding the event. The Pixel XL 2 will be the final major flagship phone of 2017 from a name-brand manufacturer. Premium OEM Apple alongside South Korean electronics Samsung and LG as well as Xiaomi and HTC have already unveiled their respective flagship smartphones.
The billboards scattered over the major US cities and short video teasers started to emerge two days after the Apple iPhone X launching. Google has also posted a promotional teaser of queries of different question being typed about their smartphone into the Google’s iconic search bar. The queries of questions being asked in the teaser video hinted that the Google Pixel 2 handsets will not suffer from blurry photos, poor battery life, storage shortages, lack of software updates, mediocre performance, and it will be smarter.
So, why will the Google Pixel 2 event be more thrilling and dramatic compared to the Apple’s event? It’s because Google is now more secretive as we don’t know a lot regarding the new features, specs and among others about the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2. There hasn’t enough reliable leaks, speculations and rumors about the next-generation Pixel phones. Almost all the aspects of Pixels remains a puzzle. It was not the same situation with the iPhone X and he iPhone 8 phones. Even when Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “One more thing” on center stage, we already knew and we expect that there’s another smartphone would be revealed, what it would be called and what it would look like. Honestly, when Apple announced the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, I was bored as I’m expecting and waiting for the iPhone X. Even when Cook said the that there would be another phone, I wasn’t surprised and amazed, unlike in the past product announcements.
Tech media aren’t sure what Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 would look like
Since there haven’t been too many trustworthy leaks and rumors as well as reliable speculations from industry analysts about the Google Pixel 2, we are really intrigued what CEO Sundar Pichai will flaunt on the stage at the October 4th Pixel event. The tech media and leaksters aren’t certainly sure whether the Pixel 2 or the Pixel XL 2 will sport a nearly bezel-less edge-to-edge curved display like Galaxy S8+ and Note 8. Tech leakers are still sorting it out over whether the impending Pixel handsets will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or the more advanced 836 SoC variant. The Mountain View firm is also speculated to embrace Qualcomm’s newest modems that support Gigabit 4G LTE networks, giving it a lead over the Cupertino.
What we know so far, according to leaks, is that the smaller Pixel 2 phone will be built by HTC. The larger Google Pixel XL 2 is purportedly to be manufactured by LG. The search mammoth is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire HTC’s mobile division. The Pixel 2 phones will also expected support Google’s recently announced AR technology.
Will Google follow the dual camera wave?
A number of leaks in the recent weeks suggest that the Pixel 2 will not be shipped with a dual cameras, while others hope Google would follow the dual camera system trend. The upcoming Pixel 2 devices are also anticipated to include an Always-On Display, similar to that of the iPhone X, Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
The lack of reliably interesting leaks and exciting rumors is a plus points for Android fans to be excited about the Pixel 2 event. Additionally, the iPhone X’s mouth-watering $1000 retail price tag would shuts down a lot of potential customers including the Apple fans, and who might want to check out the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2. Many think the iPhone X’s retail price mark is absurd, most especially when considering that most of us change our primary smartphone every two iterations.
Originally, there were three Pixel 2 phones on the pipeline
A week ago, the Pixel XL 2 was seen filed through the United States’ Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC filing confirmed that the oversized sibling of the Pixel 2 iterations will be made by LG. The smaller Pixel 2’s model number is G011A, while the Pixel XL 2 listed with model number G011C. The G011B was believed to be a variant that Google terminated earlier this year.
The FCC filing did not divulge anything about the Pixel 2’s form-factor design. We expect the handset to include with the IP68 rating for water-resistance. There is unconfirmed report that suggest Google will follow Apple on ditching the 3.5mm audio jack port, and introduce Google branded wireless headphones.
Pixel 2 phones are the first to get Android Oreo
Google Pixel 2 devices are the ones to get the Android Oreo mobile operating system. Since Alphabet’s subsidiary has a full control over the Android OS platform, the firm will indeed optimized the Oreo on the Pixel 2s, in-house smartphone — similar to the Nexus — tend to be more powerful, buttery, smooth and energy-efficient than third-party Android handset devices.
Google is also expected to unveil a new Chromebook Pixel laptop, next-generation Google Assistant-powered Google Home speaker, and wireless headphones with an in-house code-name “Bisto” at the Oct. 4 event.
Just what Google said in the Pixel 2 phones video teaser
Will the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 look alike? Will the larger model take a jump over in terms of overall design? Just like what Google said on the video teaser and other ads, all questions will be answered in the Google Pixel 2 event. However, we are not closing the possibility that leaks will emerge and surface over the Internet about the Google Pixel 2 phones within the 48-hours prior to the launch time.
