The San Francisco 49ers, led by the team’s first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, get things going their way for their all-new campaign to reach the Super Bowl this season when they play host the Carolina Panthers at Levi’s Stadium in the 2017 NFL regular-season opening game this Sunday afternoon.
The 49ers have completely overhaul their roster during the entire duration of offseason as well as in their four preseason contest under their head, but this is truly the beginning of the new era. 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have been active in revamping both the team roster and the franchise’s organizational culture this 2017.
The San Francisco face a Carolina club that welcomes back the latter’s star quarterback Cam Newton to full commitment for the first time since the previous season. Newton underwent a shoulder repair surgery this summer, and only played limited snaps in the third exhibition contest. This will be his first battle of full snaps since the finish of the last season.
Newton got a number talented and skillful weapons added in running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Curtis Samuel, and they could end up competing at different times with the Niners rookies defensive end Solomon Thomas and linebacker Reuben Foster. We know that the latter player will be starting at a mediocre side of his position and getting a plethora of work.
The San Francisco 49ers likely will be stepping in the gridiron without free safety Jimmie Ward. The former Northern Illinois star spent the last month nursing from a hamstring injury, and is listed as IR list for the season opener. Meanwhile, tight end George Kittle is also listed as questionable due to he’s also dealing with his recovery from hamstring injury. Additionally, the defensive end Aaron Lynch is also questionable to participate in the matchup against the Panthers, as he’s recovering from back injury.
