After a three days joint practice sessions, the Los Angeles Chargers play host the New Orleans Saints in second week of the action-packed 2017 NFL Preseason. The Chargers were disappointed in their preseason opener, getting massively defeated by the Seattle Seahawks on their own home stadium, 17-48.
Despite the fact that the Los Angeles starters played very well but in very limited time. On offensive side, veteran quarterback Philip Rivers led the Chargers to a 7-0 lead on team’s opening run. The defense, on the other side of the football, held Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson and his guys to three points on Legion of Bloom’s first campaign.
[agg-ad id=”442″ align=”center”][agg-ad id=”834″ align=”center”]Both teams’ starters were anticipated to get more playing time in this week game, but it remained to be determined exactly how much time star professional American players like Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson, Mark Ingram and Cameron Jordan would see the football gridiron.
The Saints and Chargers will be familiar with each other after they engaged in joint practices at the latter’s practice facility in Costa Mesa, California, August 17-19. The Los Angeles lead the regular-season series 7-5 and have a 4-2 lead in the exhibition campaign, but New Orleans has clinched their three previous regular season clash. These two franchises last played at the San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium on October 2, 2016 with the Saints stealing a sensational comeback win with a 35-34 score.
[agg-ad id=”438″ align=”left”]The Saints looks to bounce back from Thursday’s defeat at Cleveland against the Browns, while the Chargers lost to the Seahawks.
In what started as a the battle of defensive cops in the first half of the game against the Browns, the Sainsts’ kicker Wil Lutz drilled 22- and 42-yard field goals. Following a scoreless third period that featured a sack by defensive end Alex Jenkins and defensive tackle David Onyemata, quarterback Ryan Nassib linked on a two-yard touchdown to wide receiver Tommylee Lewis followed by a victorious two-point conversion attempt by RB Daniel Lasco to give New Orleans a 14-7 lead. The Brown barely escaped following a touchdown with 1:58 time remaining on the clock. The game featured a number of notable performances by Saints players looking to secure a spot on the final 53-man roster.
In his professional career debut in the National Football League, running back Alvin Kamara, one of the Saints’ three third rounder picks in the 2017 NFL Draft, powered the game with four carries for 35 yards, including a burst for additional 22-yard gain.
