The Detroit Lions welcome and play host the New York Jets on Saturday night, August 19 in the second week of 2017 NFL Preseason.
The Jets literally impressed the crowd as he made an impact in their preseason victory game over the Tennessee Titans. The New York’s starting offense displayed a promising play as the team scored a touchdown through the air. Of course, it’s just an exhibition matchup as these games are meaningless to the standings for a playoff berth. Nevertheless, it was mesmerizing to see the Jets score on offense and see their defense getting stronger.
Quarterback Christian Hackenberg will once again steal all the attentions as he will again get the opportunity to see an amplitude of reps. The Penn State College of Communications product will be looking to steal the starting quarterback job, though Josh McCown will see more reps than the preseason opener when he just played one run.
In the Jets’ first exhibition game, Hackenberg — who was drafted by the Jets in the 2nd round, 51st overall in 2016 NFL draft — was efficient but not at his full potential. The 22-year-old quarterback went 18-25 for 127 yards averaging 5.1 yards per pass, with neither touchdowns nor interceptions.
On the defense side of the team, as it happens, needs to continue from where the franchise were in the preseason opener. The New York were able to get to the the opponent’s quarterback for a total of eight times, which we haven’t seen in ages in any professional American football game. The Titans put a scantly three points. It was a dress rehearsal contest, but these are still NFL professional football players.
