The Detroit Lions, most especially the rookies, will get to experience the real professional American football game in their first action of the all-new season, squaring off the Indianapolis Colts in both teams’ 2017 NFL preseason opener on Sunday afternoon, August 13th.
The Detroit Lions made the trip to Indiana on Thursday for a joint practice sessions with the Colts and will take against each other at the Lucas Oil Stadium. The rest of the Lions’ exhibition contests will be played at starry night.
Predominantly, the first matchup of the preseason in NFL as well as in any other league is a very light one for the franchise’s starters, should the first-stringers even play at all. Instead, the younger or rookies and more inexperienced talents as well as other second- and third-stringers are usually given the load of playing time as head coaches and coaching staffs will try to ease their respective veteran stars and big name superstars into the mix in the following preseason matchups.
[agg-ad id=”442″ align=”center”][agg-ad id=”834″ align=”center”]This Sunday’s 2017 NFL preseason opener should provide the Lions’ fans an indication and quick look of the organization’s future, with recently acquired rookies via draft including linebacker Jarrad Davis, cornerback Teez Tabor and wide receiver Kenny Golloday likely to see a ton of snaps. There are also a number of positional battles to witness in this clash. Certainly at left tackle, left guard, outside linebacker, alongside the defensive line and in the secondary unit.
It is indeed compelling to see the two teams square off on the gridiron after that joint practice session. Both organizations are hoping to improve, though the Detroit are coming off of the playoff berth and would really want to build off of that.
This Lions-Colts preseason game opener will be broadcast on NFL Network. That said, it leaves numerous options to live stream online. NFL.com should have an online streaming offering, but you can also watch on FuboTV as well as on NFL Game Pass. The latter two require a paid subscription to access them.
