The latest Los Angeles Lakers rumors have suggested NBA star Jordan Clarkson’s probable departure from the franchise. However, despite these speculations, the Purple and Gold team have more than enough rationales to keep the young guard on-board the roster.
First, it was Lou Williams, followed by its young core talents — D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov. Now, the next potential trade asset in the Los Angeles Lakers’ possession is the Filipino-American Jordan Clarkson. He is one of the Los Angeles most valuable trade properties, as his skill set and talent could lead to a great player in the making.
However, the NBA player is owed $37.5 million over the next three years, one season taken away from signing a four-year, $50 million contract deal. This makes Clarkson the fourth highest paid player in Lakers, and after Brook Lopez and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope become free agents next summer, Clarkson will then be the second highest paid player in Los Angeles.
Because of the franchise’s aspiration to rebuild its roster with superstars, Clarkson becomes the next man to be moved. His talent will give him value elsewhere, allowing the Purple and Gold to give away his contract without serious consequences. According to Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, this has turned from speculation to a a factual possibility.
“One person within the organization who isn’t permitted to speak publicly on the subject told Bleacher Report the team is confident it can move Clarkson if needed to open space.”
Whether or not it takes place is yet to be determined. However, the mere fact that the ball club is even contemplating the deal tells deeper meaning; the Lakers are all in on this superstar rebuilding ambition and aren’t concerned what talent the team need to give up. They need a bigger salary cap space.
Although, trading out Jordan Clarkson may not be in the best move for the Los Angeles Lakers. The franchise has other trails to open up cap room, hence are three explanations why the LA Lakers would be foolish to trade Jordan Clarkson.
