The New England Patriots take the first leaf towards the 2017 NFL regular season tonight, as the defending Super Bowl champions open up this year’s preseason against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Week 1 preseason game won’t feature a lot of stars, but will be the first peek of new acquisitions like Mike Gillislee and Stephon Gilmore in real game action.

The New England Patriots will host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Gillette Stadium in the two organizations’ preseason opener. And while a slew of starters are not projected to play tonight, the exhibition game will still give some hints about where the professional American football players on the roster currently stands.

[agg-ad id=”438″ align=”left”]Prior to the preseason opener, the Patriots hosted the Jaguars for a couple of days of joint practices, marking the sixth consecutive year that the team organized a joint practice sessions with a preseason nemesis and the first time with the Jaguars.

The Patriots and Jaguars will one again take the gridiron in the preseason. This will be the third time, with the two teams splitting their first two games. The Patriots outshone the Jaguars, 47-12, in their most recent matchup (August 11, 2011), while the latter won their initial preseason contest, 31-0 (September 2, 2004).
