The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter said this offseason that he really wants to form a “badass football team.”
According to a number of National Football League (NFL) writers, Koetter should be checking out head coach Bill Belichick’s “Project Badass” in New England Patriots. Because nothing is more powerhouse super team than winning a lot of American football games.
Koetter’s remarks led Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times to survey a total of 43 NFL writers as to who was the most “badass” club in the NFL. Not only are the New England Patriots the reigning Super Bowl champions, but the franchise are also the league’s most badass organization with 29 total votes, outscoring the Seattle Seahawks (27), Pittsburgh Steelers (18), Oakland Raiders (9) and Baltimore Ravens (8).
“They keep winning in a league designed to discourage dynasties,” wrote Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.
“For a decade they’ve been toying with and laughing at the rest of the league. The biggest bullies on the block,” added Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York.
In terms of individual professional American football players, both Patriots stars quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski cracked the Top 10:
1. James Harrison, Pittsburgh Steelers LB (14 votes)
2t. Marshawn Lynch, Oakland Raiders RB (10)
2t. J.J. Watt, Houston Texans DE (10)
4t. Kam Chancellor, Seattle Seahawks S (8)
4t. Ndamukong Suh, Miami Dolphins DT (8)
6. Tom Brady, New England Patriots QB (7)
7. Von Miller, Denver Broncos LB (6)
8t. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots TE (5)
8t. Khalil Mack, Oakland Raiders LB (5)
10. Aaron Donald, Los Angeles Rams DT (4)
The Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman also gathered a vote, because he’s pretty darn badass for a 5-foot-10 wideout.
The six seat may seem a little too low for Tom Brady, given he’s the king of trash talk on the league’s most badass franchise.
