MANILA, Philippines – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will not be taking any chances as the international pop superstar Britney Spears performs in Manila on Thursday, June 15.

“Our preparations are in place. We had a walk-through yesterday to see the specific locations of our police who will be detailed there,” said Metro Manila PNP chief Director Oscar Albayalde in an interview on Wednesday, June 14.

PNP Chief Albayalde said over 200 policemen will be scattered inside and outside the concert venue. The cops with short firearms with be employed inside the concert venue, specifically in the lobby, while uniformed police without firearms will be deployed inside the arena itself.

A Special Weapons And Tactic (SWAT) team will also be on standby, added the police brass. Thise armed cops are allowed inside the venue is a new progress. In the previous events, policemen were only allowed to man the perimeter of the huge events.

“There are major adjustments. It’s because we made coordination with management and security personnel that we supervise all major events that will be held in Metro Manila,” Albayalde added.

In late April and early May of this year, a blasts hit the Quiapo area in Metro Manila in separate occasions.

Earlier this month, a lone gunman armed with an assault riffle and gasoline stormed a hotel-casino complex also in Resorts World Manila, which is located in Pasay City. Although nobody died from gunshots, at least 38, including the suspect, died from suffocation because of fires the he started.

The “Oops!… I Did It Again” hit maker has arrived in the Philippines for her concert, to be held tonight at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Philippines is one of the stops on Britney’s Asian tour which also includes Thailand, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
